In 2010, @Vredesactie bombspotters broke into KB -- also planning to get arrested on the runway. After no one showed up for about 40 minutes, they started to wander around the base before being confronted by a lone guard with an unloaded weapon. (2/5)

A few months later, @Vredesactie protestors returned and got INSIDE an unlocked hardened aircraft shelter and photographed the control panel for a WS3 vault. WS3 vaults are used for storing US nuclear weapons. (3/5)
In a humorous twist, @ElaineMGrossman reported that, although the base was supposed to have guard dogs, the Belgians had failed to hire a dog master. This struck me as indicative of deeper problems with a lax approach to security. (4/5)

I've said it before, but I'll say it again. We'd all be a lot safer if these weapons were consolidated at US air bases in Europe or the United States where they could be properly guarded. (5/5)
