There has been a debate around Patriots vs Paytriots. I believe that this has burnt itself out, as the ethical lines are reasonably clear. If we take our task seriously in #QArmy being "we are the news", we need to think deeply about putting our resources into #CitizenJournalism.
I have found that producing my weekly newsletter, with relevant insight to help people make sense of the world, has been a good discipline. As a commercial activity, however, it is a madness — since it doesn't fit with my historical telecoms-centric technology audience.
As citizens, we have families, holidays, illnesses, and other life distractions. Being beholden to publication patterns that fit the mass media model doesn't really work, I find. I manage to get a newsletter out nearly every weekend, but it means I'm spending 3-4 hours working.
In my consulting work, I have come across the idea of "temporary organisations", which are teams that are empowered to act on a special project, but which don't force a reorg of the mainstream business. It is understood from the outset that there will be a disbandment date.
I don't want to commit to producing newsletter for the rest of my life, and it makes absolutely no sense for me to build up a subscription business. Yet I still have to pay my way in the world. We therefore may need to innovate in how we go about bypassing the failing #FakeNews.
Maybe there is a new category of "Paidtriot", which is where contributions of professional-grade labour, and which have a meaningful impact on the world, are given due reward by consortia of those who value this work. It's about covering living costs, not making hefty profits.
There is a missing middle ground between Paypal and Patreon. Paypal lets people make a one-off gift, which is lovely, but doesn't sustain a relationship. Patreon makes for an open-ended series of donations, but this comes with an unending commitment to produce more content.
It may be that in a fast-changing #GreatAwakening media landscape — an evolving battleground where decisive speed gains territory — needs new models of "temporary media" that have project-based funding to deliver accountable outcomes over relatively short timescales.
There will be a continuing need to evolve the subject focus, audience, and distribution methods of our antidotes to the corporate shills and propaganda attempting to sustain their dying system of control. It's too early to be building new long-term institutions during mid-battle.
My current Patreon is around $1800/month, of which $1000 is really a consulting client on long-term retainer. I have been finding my traditional tech consulting work increasingly unattractive as my heart is here in the #MAGA world. I can't live off $800/month. Simply not viable.
I am thinking is taking a lead with a new model, where I commit to produce certain content & analysis — including a #QAnon quick start guide — and these scope and time bound projects are crowdfunded from the Patriot community. Being a Paidtriot is not a business, but is a living.
What we are creating with the #QArmy is a real military movement in a real war against a really vicious enemy where real lives and real freedom are at stake. Digital soldiers need rations, yet some of us don't have a "day job" & wouldn't be able to speak out freely if we had one.
I have been to so many business conferences where I am a speaker or even the chairman, and have been the only person in the room not being paid for my labour. It isn't sustainable, and in recent times I've turned down every request and withdrawn from that speaking circuit.
I hope this has given you some food for thought. The recent drops from Q are an invitation for us to have a grown-up conversation about the truth telling responsibilities we are taking on, and the resources we need to deliver upon them effectively as #QArmy.
