#InternationalWomensDay was celebrated across #Rojava today - and all week.

We wanted to share some of the best reporting we've seen - short and in-depth, recent and older - that highlights the voices of Rojava's women and their leadership role in the society here.

Kurdish academic @DilarDirik is an excellent source for getting a broader understanding of the realities and (geo)politics of Rojava.

As she points out here, a lot of reporting on Rojava's women gets it wrong, relying on tired stereotypes.

Sonja Ahmed's photo-essay for @CNN is one positive example.

The women of #YPJ have long made the headlines, but by travelling repeatedly to Rojava and foregrounding these women's stories, her piece adds something new to the conversation.

Photographer @joeyldotcom also manages to get away from the stereotypes in his in-depth look at the #YPJ.

Among other things, he reflects on witnessing #InternationalWomensDay in Rojava back in 2015 - it's his picture at the top of this thread.

It's important journalists don't shy away from the challenges facing women in North Eastern Syria in favour of black-and-white narratives.

@SaraManisera looks critically at the struggle to provide desperately-needed support to the women of #Raqqa.

On the other hand, there's a lot to celebrate!

In her own report from #Raqqa this week, @YaraaBouTV picks out some great details which bring to life women's struggle and advances in the city.

We're also always happy to see reporting which looks beyond the military struggle to the other ways women are reorganising society in Rojava.

Meghan Bodette @_____mjb takes an in-depth look at autonomous solutions to violence against women.

Finally, there are an increasing number of more in-depth resources available on women's struggle and role in Rojava.

We'd recommend "Revolution in Rojava: Democratic Autonomy and Women's Liberation in Syrian Kurdistan" from @PlutoPress

These are just a few of our personal suggestions. If you have more examples of great reporting on Rojava you think deserve to be highlighted, let us know!

"They think they're free, but they're wrong. We are the ones who are free and independent!"

Great #InternationalWomensDay report from @lindseyhilsum on life after #ISIS for women in North East Syria.
