In honor of #InternationalWomensDay (and inspired by @kathryncasteel), a short and woefully incomplete thread of women who’ve inspired me in journalism.
Starting with @ForsythJenn, the best editor I’ve ever had (and I’ve had some great ones!), who taught me more than she’ll ever know, and whose team @WSJ is generating huge story after huge story.
@andreaskaren & @HelenGiffordSN gave me my start in journalism (and forgave me when I made some big mistakes), and stood up for their reporters no matter what.
Every time I file a story, I ask myself “what problems would @mashfordg catch in this story?” Which means she’s still making my stories better even in absentia.
I shouted them out yesterday, but the dream team of @cragcrest @annabarryjester @maggiekb1 @blytheterrell are the best science journos out there, and even better colleagues, friends and karaoke partners.
I don’t think a week goes by that I don’t cite something I learned from @farai. We’d have understood 2016 better if we’d listened to her then; we’d have better journalism if we listened to her today.

One of the highlights of working @nytimes is getting to have @nataliekitro & @jbsgreenberg as colleagues. If you haven’t read their series on pregnancy discrimination from last year, stop reading this thread and go do that now.

Another highlight: working with @patcohenNYT. I think my @newmarkjschool students are wondering why she isn’t the one teaching the class considering how often I assign her stories. (She's on #jobsday duty today, so who knows when she'll see this!)
Are you a dodgy for-profit college trying to get rich with student loan $$$? You probably don’t like @StacyCowley much. But the rest of us sure do.

No one who roots for Kentucky should be allowed to run a sports web site, but I will make an exception for @megreenwell because she is such a badass. Seriously, check out the incredible work her team is doing @Deadspin. (Not the stuff about the Pats. All of that is trash.)
This isn’t even *close* to a comprehensive list, but I’m going to stop before this gets (more) unwieldy. So grateful for all these great colleagues, current and former. And for the many other women whose journalism I’ve admired from afar.
And hey, you know what would *really* be a great way of celebrating #InternationalWomensDay? Ensuring equal pay and equal opportunities in every newsroom.
