My sister and I were texting yesterday about death. I knew someone on the Ethiopian Airlines crash and mothers of 2 of her friends died recently. To be human is largely to forget - and to do all we can to forget -that we are going to die. And in between, we’re the walking wounded
I think of the ways we cope and don’t cope and can’t cope with grief on days like this when it’s almost impossible to grasp the pain felt by loved ones of 49 people shot to pieces at mosque where they’d gone for community and prayer.
I reported on a train disaster in #Egypt years ago and I will never forget the man who’d just come out of the morgue with his dead wife’s wedding ring in his fingers, in shock and saying over and over “This is all I have left of her.” How do you recover and live? Do you recover?
