So March is #EndometriosisAwarenessMonth and since, right now, I am in the grips of an #endometriosis flare-up I'm gonna tell you all what having this disease is really like.
First of all, to put it simply, #endometriosis is when cells that are meant to grow inside your uterus grow on other parts of your body. Any parts! The cells can grow on your bowels, your stomach, liver, intestines, even your lungs, eyes, or brain. Yeah! It's terrifying!
And because these cells are supposed to be part of your uterine lining, they're basically programmed to shed every month. So like your uterine lining sheds when an egg isn't implanted & hence you have a period. These cells shed in the same way but....not inside your uterus

So as you probably know from my SUPER SUBTLE HINTS in my viral fighting in ballgowns thread, I'm a larper & a tabletop gamer. For each like this Tweet gets, I'll post a thought about the relationship between roleplaying games & writing and how gaming has shaped my creativity!
One of the biggest differences between running games & writing novels is that gaming is fundamentally collaborative. While in writing it sometimes feels like your characters have minds of their own, in gaming they LITERALLY DO.

You can learn SO MUCH from this.
A good game runner (GM) has to be willing to let the players run with their crazy ideas and weird priorities and take the plot in directions you never expected.

Learning to let my cherished plot ideas go and be flexible as a GM has been a HUGE help to me as a writer.

Been tweeting a lot about bad ideas lately. Let's switch gears and talk about some Blessed Concepts in Agriculture.
1. Diversifying Crops For Better Luck With Labor

The foodie world focuses on diversifying crops because of the environment & "if it's bad weather for 1 crop, it might still be good for others"

Those aren't wrong, but I think they also actually miss the #1 reason to branch out.
Storytime: once worked w a big apple-growing region in upper midwest. Dozens of family farms growing apples & nothing else. A one-county applepalooza.

These growers had the WORST time with labor. #1 problem that came up, way beyond weather or bugs or markets.

There's a lot of good food for thought in this piece, but I think it might miss an important distinction, between cultural conservatism and social conservatism. 1/
Roseanne doesn't offer a whole lot for social conservatives, or if you prefer, religious conservatives. But it never did. The Conner's weren't, to my recollection, avid churchgoers, and there was always (iirc) a bit of a disconnect between Roseanne and Dan on these issues. 2/
Sort of mimicking the Archie/Edith Bunker split. Television isn't particularly kind to these voters; even religious-themed shows like Touched by an Angel and Highway to Heaven have had more of a liberal protestant/social gospel take on Christianity. 3/
