How auto is the auto in #autofollow tweets, and how many of the accounts that post them will #autofollow us as a consequence of this thread? Let's find out. #SundayMotivation

cc: @ZellaQuixote
We downloaded all tweets containing #autofollow from the last 10 days, yielding 31783 tweets from 1184 accounts. 815 (68.8%) of these accounts appear automated based on 24/7 activity/use of automation tools. These accounts posted 24735 (77.8%) of the tweets.
The majority of the content posted by the 815 bots with #autofollow tweets is in Japanese, with English in second place. We translated the Japanese text to English via Chrome's translation feature and used these translations for the remainder of the analysis.
The 815 #autofollow bots like to repeat tweets. Here are the 20 most common; both original and translated. The tweets that are repeated exactly 1000 times are how accounts that tweet the exact same thing over and over show up in the data (we used 1000 tweets per account).
What do the 815 automated accounts with #autofollow tweets tweet about? Mostly following, following, and more following, with a sprinkle of following on top. "Cat" made it in there if you look close, so there's that.

(English translations of Japanese tweets used for this image.)
Speaking of cats, Twittbot is the most common automation service used by the #autofollow bots, but there's also one called "Meet! Dogs'n Cats" in the mix. Spoiler: it looks like all you'll meet is more followback spam. Recommend adopting pets through traditional means instead.
