This story is 100 percent bullshit. It's a case study is how NOT/NOT to do OSINT. A short thread. (1/5)
english.chosun.com/m/svc/article.…
Basically, @EnglishChosun claimed that North Korea moved barge used to launch sea-based missiles from the basin where it usually sits and out to sea for a missile test. They published an image showing a barge out in the water. (2/5)
Notice how the basin is cut off at the top? That's because in the full image, THE LAUNCH BARGE HASN'T MOVED. This is either spectacularly incompetent or downright dishonest. Here is the whole image, annotated. (3/5)
Although @EnglishChosun did not report the day of the image, @planetlabs also got two images from the same day -- March 12. (There are more than twenty images from March and early April. It's hard to make out the launch barge, but as best I can tell, it hasn't moved). (4/5)
So, long-story short: The barge hasn't moved. This story is complete garbage. Finally, thanks to @ISNJH and @DaveSchmerler who saw the story this am and were like "WTF?" (5/5)
PS: The other launch barge at Nampo hasn't moved either. I checked. It was visible in high resolution images on March 12, 13, 19, 22 and 26.
