There is so much anger and angst against Seminars conducted by Professional Traders mainly because most of those attending have not seen any improvement in their Trading after attending them. Here is my 2 bits on why it works out this way

People see successful Traders offering Seminars and Trading on Twitter and immediately think that after spending 2 days and a few thousand rupees start generating similar Returns that the pro is making. The first problem is that are you ok with the System that he is Trading?

So for instance some Traders rely heavily on TA. Others are more Geometrically inclined and find their edge in Patterns. Still others are Mathematically inclined and get their edge from numbers or Statistics. Here I am talking of the Trading Universe

Let's narrow it down to a field I understand better- Options. There are buyers and sellers. Some Trade their directional beliefs thru Options while others Trade Volitility. I am an Income Trader whose primary goal is to capture Theta Decay.

So in all this, if you are incompatible with the basic style that the Trader uses, you are wasting your time and Money. The next roadblock is conviction. Dr Van Tharp says that we don't Trade the Markets but our beliefs in the Market. From belief stems conviction.

Thomas Bulkowski who has written many great books on Chart Patterns has actually quantified the success rates of each. The best ones work 30-40% of the time. So obviously while many successful Traders use them as a starting point, it's not the entry which wins for them

If you Trade a System do you have the conviction, skill and discipline to do what it takes to get it to work? Without any one of the three failure is guaranteed. Without conviction you should not even attempt to Trade a system and conviction is the hardest thing to come by

That said, there are many things successful Traders have in common. Money Management, Discipline, Flexibility, Self Analysis among others. Sure these are Skills that you need not pay to learn and can pick up from some good books and the internet but that's easier said than done
