I have a serious question for AltGov OG, newer AltGov accounts, #Resistance, & all of our followers, large or small. What (if anything) do you think #AltGov’s value has been over the years since @realDonaldTrump’s inauguration, & what do you look for from us today? [Mini-thread]

I feel our focus as a decentralized but still largely cohesive group has evolved and shifted over time. There are far more focuses/activities than would fit into nice neat categories, but I think many fall into a few groups…

1. TRANSPARENCY: Our origin. (Thank you @BadHombreNPS) #AltGov was born out of attempts to suppress scientific data and other info that didn’t conform to @realDonaldTrump’s narrative. Our OG accounts promised to continue providing real data, regardless of Trump’s gag orders

2. FACT CHECKING: In the early days of Trump’s administration, the media just reported what he said & was reluctant to question him. Trump had an unchecked bully pulpit. AltGov & the #Resistance were the most prominent early voices against Trump, fact checking & calling out lies

I feel our growing voices & our traction challenging Trump helped to push media to start more explicitly questioning his claims & even finally using words such as “lies.” Now that they more consistently call out Trump’s lies, I think we are *somewhat* less needed on that front

2. EXPOSING CORRUPTION: #AltGov researched & highlighted corruption, conflicts of interest, & immoral actions among Trump’s appointees, such as Scott Pruitt, Betsy DeVos, Jeff Sessions, etc. Highlighting that it was becoming a corrupt ADMINISTRATION vs. “just” a corrupt President

3. ACTIVE COUNTERMEASURES: #AltGov members started directly investigating and exposing individual fraudulent pro-Trump social media accounts and bots, as well as taking more active behind-the-scenes measures to counter some cyber threats to U.S. elections

4. HUMOR/LEVITY: Many of us (some more than others) use frequent sarcasm, humor, profanity, and/or wit to try to amuse and entertain folks, figuring everyone needs to be able to laugh some or we’ll all go (more) insane. #AltsAfterDark

5. MORALE: It is easy for anyone unhappy with what is happening in DC to get run down, exhausted, depressed, and unmotivated. I think one focus has been trying to help inspire and motivate people who are feeling hopeless, to keep fatigue from making us all complacent and give up

What do you all think? Are there things that keep you following that I didn’t mention? Do you think we DON’T do or fail at any of the things I mentioned? Are there things you want, but are not getting? Am I full of it?
