This is what happens when white nationalism infuses immigration policy.

Looking at you, @FAIRImmigration, @CIS_org, and @numbersusa
Lawmakers must stop inviting and listening to these groups. They are mouthpieces for white nationalism, not a legitimate "opposing viewpoint."

They've created a framework for immigration discourse built on "fear of an invasion."

That's textbook white nationalism.
When I called the out in this video, they accused me of being an operative for the Qatari government paid to meddle in the midterms.

Paranoid much?

That's also textbook white nationalism.

#IStandWithIlhan too. The new #bluewave must stand for accountability, and part of that means challenging organizations with ties to white nationalism.

I want to take a moment to honor the workers I've gotten to know over the years I've practiced law. Today being #InternationalWorkersDay, we're reminded that workers are the majority, worldwide, and face a common struggle, worldwide.
It's too easy it is for our legal system to disadvantage workers - disproportionately immigrant. The protections aren't where they must be, and are where they shouldn't.

Not paid a living wage.
Victimized by labor brokers who earn their trust.
Victims of payroll fraud.
Unsafe working conditions.
Threats of immigration enforcement.
Workplace raids.
Barred from organizing.
Suffering under at-will "right to work."

I remember my clients who have been victimized in at least one of these ways, sometimes more.

Why is equality so damn hard?

I went to the #ERAHearing today, and it was an historic event, to be sure.

The issue: if 1 more state (hopefully Virginia!) ratifies the #ERA, can it become a part of the Constitution given that the original date for ratification has expired?
If they extended it once, can Congress remove the deadline?

I think it's pretty clear the answer is yes, and it shouldn't take the Supreme Court to figure it out.

I showed up to today's hearing because I'm a fan of equality. But part of me left the hearing scratching my head.
Why should anyone have to be a "fan" of equality? That's like saying you're a fan of justice, or good, or fairness. Some things just need to be presumed.

But as several speakers pointed out, equality is never presumed. It's always debated. Impediments are thrown up.

Arlington, VA is a thriving, diverse community. But not when it comes to criminal justice. As a defense lawyer who's tried cases there and throughout NoVA, I know its reputation of overzealous prosecution, with disparate impact on minorities and the mentally ill, is sadly true.
You know it's bad when a harsh sentence is referred to as "Arlington style."

So I was duty bound to sign on a letter with 108 other attorneys, noting a high (98%) rate of felony convictions by plea, unfair discovery practices, and hugely disparate stats on black defendants.
Black folks are only 9% of the population, but 60+% of marijuana, larceny, and trespass arrests.

Something noxious is in the water when all roads lead to the Arlington Detention Center.

white people starting to not hate themselves is such a threat to the current power infrastructure that the government is literally having a hearing on "white nationalism" (extremely rare ideology) as a cover for how they can police + put a stop to this growing lack of self hatred
how many people are there in america who are actually actively fighting for a white only nation or for america to be 100% white? there are more flat earthers than actual white nationalists. even in the most extreme places online this is rare.
government acting like literal white nationalism is about to take over the nation when in reality just saying white people shouldnt hate themselves for being white is enough to get you fired from your job and to ruin your life

Okay here’s the thing. Most of the refugees I know don’t like to talk about it, but watching the inhumanity of this #immigration policy makes me want to mention a couple things. I was one of those kids clinging to his mom, seeking asylum... (1/16)
I spent five years (5-10) sleeping under my bed and soiling myself with anxiety. If my mom was less than 15 minutes late coming home, I would enter a full physical panic that she had been taken (she was once by the secret police in our country).
My dreams were almost entirely narratives of watching my parents taken and killed. And you have to understand, once we left our country, I didn’t leave my mother’s side for three years. I can’t imagine what would’ve happened if I’d been put in those cages.
