#RM_Ott19 @research_money next panel: digital strategies for a successful tomorrow w/ @LivNeal @TBS_Canada, Anil Anora @StatCan_eng, Sasha Hobbs of First Nations Tech Council, @DuganOneil @SFU, and Ben Sanders @proof
BS launched companies in Silicon Valley and engaged gov at different levels (incl running for office), now launching @proof to assist in digital governance.

SH has been in academia @SFU, in BC government, now at FNTC which partners with fed and prov govs, superclusters, etc,
DON says academic programs must evolve rapidly, today's grads have (need) different skills than past grads ➡️ train the next gen according to where job market is going (largely, more digital). + Partnerships with policymakers like AA @StatCan_eng are important for EBDM
#RM_Ott19
+ data strategies aren't just necessary at govt level, also at institutions - DON #RM_Ott19

AA adds that new tools will become increasingly available, and expertise to take advantage of these will drive partnerships of the future. Data is also a key resource for this
AA @StatCan_eng - Convening power, enabling multiple perspectives to contribute to a partnership, can drive much more advancement and innovation.
#RM_Ott19
SH agrees, adds that *relationships* both precede and outlast partnerships... We know that there is both a need and desire for indigenous people to partner, therefore there is also a pressing need to create and foster relationships.
#RM_Ott19
BS @proof took lessons from Silicon Valley up to the Yukon, setting up a makerspace to get folks working together.

This brings us back to digital government ➡️ similar to makerspaces and partnerships: this is an opportunity to make govt more accessible & inclusive. #RM_Ott19
DON @SFU - not just publications, generating strong data as a resource could be a measure of research excellence - esp if it ensures projects are well informed by data obtained through new digital tools (incl data from indigenous communities, other stakeholders) #RM_Ott19
AA @StatCan_eng discusses how new indicators / indexes may become relevant in a more digital future ➡️ indicators of impact (of projects, of natural disasters, of research, etc) on society, socio-economic indicators, indicators that denote value of companies, etc #RM_Ott19
Trust has been lost at many levels - church, government, companies, etc.

If customer service is a black box where questions go unanswered (about immigration status, policies), can we really foster trust?

Need to leverage tech to better serve the public - B Sanders #RM_Ott19
... If there is no communication / collaboration across government, we'll end up with 1,000 different apps to deal with the same problem. Wouldn't it be better to pool resources to have one simpler and accessible solution?

Plus, that would cost so much less
- B Sanders #RM_Ott19
