I’m LJ, a UK Respiratory doctor & medical education enthusiast. I’m here to share my experience of creating respnetlondon.com #RespEd #RespisBest #MedEd #FOAMed #PressEdConf19 /1
UK medical doctors in training must navigate a complex landscape of changing accreditation requirements. Vital information is often dispersed across multiple emails & websites e.g. JRCPTB & PGMDE #RespEd #MedEd #PressEdConf19 /2
I built Respnet as a practical way to centralise information, but also to inspire #trainees & create a sense of belonging. Belonging, connection & community are important for motivation, fulfilment & #wellness, & help prevent #burnout. #RespEd #MedEd #PressEdConf19 /3
Here are some articles on #belonging, #burnout & #wellness in #medicine.

On burnout & wellness - tinyurl.com/y4ncgg55

I cannot code but had learned a lot about @wordpress as I use it for my personal/professional blog drlj.blog Anyone can make a website with a bit of time & patience! #RespEd #MedEd #PressEdConf19 /5
Core elements of the RepNet site are:
- Info on programme requirements: tinyurl.com/yytbrypj
- Summaries of training days: tinyurl.com/y5b56yky
- Info on training hospitals: tinyurl.com/y44jxjzh
#RespEd #MedEd #PressEdConf19 /6
Also
- Links to useful resources: tinyurl.com/yynh26ww
- FAQs: tinyurl.com/y3ub9gyb
- Celebrating trainee’s achievements: tinyurl.com/y4nsevcy

I setup lots of things that would auto-update to keep the site fresh with minimal input eg RSS feeds (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS), link to a GoogleCalendar, Twitter (themeisle.com/blog/integrate…).
#RespEd #MedEd #PressEdConf19 /8
I found online forums v helpful for working out how to do this. Online people always gave a helping hand! #RespEd #MedEd #PressEdConf19 /9
I was a #trainee when I made the site, trying to share info & make life easier for other #trainees. I sourced info from other #trainees in person & via @Google sheets surveys so info is up to date & a #collaboration
#RespEd #MedEd #PressEdConf19 /10
I had resistance at first from Consultants who feared content being public - worried re reputation risk. I was careful abt content, & explicit how feedback would be used - protecting #trainees confidentiality, & considering public content.
#RespEd #MedEd #PressEdConf19 /11
Once I built the site, skeptics rapidly saw value. It was made for #trainees in 1 region, but content is relevant nationally. It led to the @BTSrespiratory creating a new national site, on their own platform tinyurl.com/y2kkxovg. #RespEd #MedEd #RespisBest #PressEdConf19 /12
Our #trainees now can’t imagine how we’d function without respnetlondon.com! I have now finished training so have handed the site over to a new group of trainees to run. I hope they will continue to expand content & features. #RespEd #MedEd #PressEdConf19 #RespisBest /13
Letting go of a project that has been a labour of love can be hard!
#PressEdConf19 /14
I’ve learned a lot about #elearning & will take this to new projects! In future I would like to create a more interactive site, & integrate other features. I would also want to find funding - I paid for hosting & url myself - not sustainable. #meded #RespEd #PressEdConf19 /15
Please have a look at the site respnetlondon.com, & get in touch if you are starting a similar project & I can help in any way #RespEd #RespisBest #MedEd #FOAMed #sharethelove #PressEdConf19 /16
