 i want to share a couple thoughts about the earnings numbers @Microsoft released yesterday -- here are 5 highlights that really stood out to me.

• Revenue up 14% to $30.6B.
• @MSCloud revenue up 41% to $9.6B – WOW!!!
• Operating income up 25% to $10.3B .
• Net income up 19% to $8.8B.

 Microsoft @Azure:
• Azure revenue up an incredible 73%
• >95% of Fortune 500 running workloads in @MSCloud

 Windows:
• >800M active @Windows 10 devices!
• Windows OEM revenue up 9%.
• Windows commercial products & Cloud services revenue up 18%!!! Wow!
• Surface revenue up 21% -- incredible!

 Office 365:
• @Office365 now at 180M monthly active users.
• @Outlook installed on more than 100M iOS & Android devices.
• @MicrosoftTeams used by 91 of @FortuneMagazine 100.

 Enterpise Mobility + Security:

• #EMS install base grew 53% -- passing 100M!!! Unbelievable!!!
• @MSIntune & AADP are BY FAR the most common choice for device and identity management/protection.

It‘s a big deal when The @WashingtonPost asks on its front page:

On a personal note, something about this piece really stood out to me.

Three of the voices it mentions as questioning neoliberal dogma belong to the children of Asian immigrants: @RoKhanna, @AndrewYang, and me.

I think this is more revealing than was necessarily intended.
For a long time, many voices and communities — especially in the African-American community — have been saying American capitalism doesn’t work for them. Let’s not forget that.

Asian-Americans became useful foils. We were supposed to come here and rise and prove that anyone can.

So I was going to wait with this one. But events are moving fast. The whole Brexit debacle aside, it is entirely possible a Tory leadership contest is on the way.

And you thought Gove was bad. I mean he is, he's pure evil. But still. Brace yourselves.
I was chatting with a few folks tonight about the possibility of Johnson vs Corbyn. My main concern was, and is, the "lesser Trump" narrative. Ken Clarke pretty much exemplifies it here. If Johnson does fight a GE, expect to see a lot of this.

Of course, this plays into Johnson's public perception - the bumbling buffoon. It is widely known that Johnson intentionally plays this up. So far, he's had success with it. But combined with the lesser Trump narrative, it could be extremely dangerous.

So the Q4 2018 GDP results released yesterday show the strongest economic performance since #Nigeria emerged from recession.

I want to share a couple thoughts about the vital importance of history in this moment of planetary emergency.

2. This global ecological crisis we face did not come out of nowhere.

In some ways, its roots stretch back to the dawn of agriculture.

But in a more immediate sense, the crisis we face today is almost entirely the result of decisions made in the last 50 years.
3. Powerful people made choices, seeking to get rich: To subsidize + expand the use of fossil fuels; to build auto-dependent communities; to subsidize agrobusiness + animal agriculture; to embrace cheap plastic + toxic chemistry; to exploit + destroy forests and fisheries.

Ok, I’ll try and keep this brief, but lets talk PT Cruiser and the 2007 recession. FYI, I’m not *blaming* the crash on the PT Cruiser, just generally laying out how the story of the PT Cruiser and the people who bought them provides an early window into the lending meltdown...
(if you were in the car biz in the 00’s and want to chime in/check my work, feel free...just maybe turn your location off just in case any of your former customers are out there still pissed about what you did to them)
So rewind to the late 90s: economy was strong for a good chunk of consumers (definitely not everyone), and while lending wasn’t the free-for-all it was to become, it wasn’t terribly hard to get financing (again, a good chunk of people, but definitely not all)...
