Most economists still act as if our currency is still tied to the Gold Standard. It’s not but they like to avoid speaking to this reality.

MMT explains that govt money is not ‘taxpayers’ money’. Govt makes us pay tax to remove ‘water from our fish tank’ & it’s spending adds ‘water’ to that metaphorical fish-tank.

The marvellous future that MMT offers is one that surpasses the limitations of socialism bcz we would still be a capitalist social democracy but our country would be run by the best minds who would share the best intentions for every citizen.
The only qualifier is that the people ‘pulling the levers’ couldn’t be the half-smart self-seekers we see in @liberalaus or @the_nationals.
