This is the dilemma, & the sociopolitical & socioeconomic crisis of identity that is now playing-out in front of the watching world, via the impasse of the Transitional Military Council (TMC) & “The People” that are STILL Protesting on the streets after Omer Al-Bashir’s ousting
from power.

In Khartoum (formerly within a united-Sudan), the mixing of politics with ethnicity has ALWAYS been the root cause of problems.
Islam & Politics only became a factor in the mid 1980s, with the Bashir/NIF partnership; & all just as a desperate attempt at domestic
sociopolitical & socioeconomic control, to coerce the population nationwide. A strategic move to also foster stronger “alliances” with the Gulf & Middle Eastern Arab countries. Islam wasn’t a significant sociopolitical factor at #Sudan Independence in 1956; nor was it within the
Anyanya One civil war in the now #South Sudan, towards the 1972 Addis Ababa Peace Agreement.

If one is really keen to understand more about “what is really going on right now” in #Khartoum with the Transitional Military Council & their seemingly increasing intransigence against
handing-over power back to civilian rule, one only needs to delve deeper into this now “African vs Arab” world identity crisis which is front-and-centre within every Northern #Sudanese’s very own mind. It is NOT solely about dismantling the Bashir/NCP/Islamists’ deep state.
It’s about something far more feral and humanly real than that. It’s about a sense of belonging.
“We are all Darfuris!”; we have heard the millions of non-Darfuri Northern Sudanese Protestors shouting on the streets in solidarity, since the start of the #SudanUprising....
This identity issue was about to raise its head-up fully “back then” throughout the whole of a “still-united” North & South #Sudan after the 2005 CPA was signed in January 2005; but it was halted temporarily by a certain “helicopter crash” that took place on the 30th July 2005.
Unlike some who may not appreciate these seminal historical nuances, the SPLM/A back in 2005, was about to finally answer that question of #Sudan’s Identity at the 2010 #Sudan General Elections. Had the anticipated outcome occurred, the 2011 #SouthSudan Independence Referendum
outcome, would have been quite different.
That’s “partly” why the Late Chairman of the SPLM/A, Dr. John Garang De Mabior, was “killed” not long after he had signed the 2005 CPA. It’s also why the CPA was NOT subsequently implemented fully “to the letter”, as it was meant to have
been to resolve those current & still ongoing conflicts in Southern Kordofan, Blue Nile, the Nuba Mountains, Abyei, and then eventually Darfur.

Since #Sudan’s Independence in 1956, the post-Ottoman Empire, “minority”, migrant, ruling-elite, Arab tribes which are now in & around
the current TMC post-Bashir’s ousting, & are the major stakeholders within most of the formal & historical political parties & Islamic-Political Organisational entities found in Khartoum & North #Sudan, are STILL “attempting to run & ‘to do it’ all over again by remote control”
via their historical “divide, confuse & rule” stratagem. Their indigenous Africans of choice this time, are the Darfuris; & their principal proxy of choice is, Mohammed Hamadan Daglo (aka Hemetdi), the former Commander of the Janjaweed - now more commonly & respectably rebranded
as the “Rapid Support Force” (RSF) - with the “financial” help, & diplomatic & political support from #SaudiArabia, the #UAE, & #Egypt.

Whether these ruling-elite, North #Sudan, “Arab minority” tribes who have had to eventually resort to using Islam & hyper-Arabism to stay in
power shall indeed still be able to retain control over the now “more-African Identifying”, youthful majority” of other Northern #Sudanese tribes, we shall see in due course?!
And what one should find quite compelling too; is that both groups, i.e. the Arab minority & the
African majority, contain significant numbers of persons whom practice Islam religiously - and they are even about to commence & follow Ramadan, with designated facilities being made available at the various sit-in sites throughout Khartoum & in North #Sudan. So, secular Islam
does appear to have finally arrived in #Sudan; & Sharia Law shall have difficultly reinstating itself post-Bashir & his NCP/NIF partnership?!
And all of this just adds even more fuel to the fire of the #SudanUprising; and to the perceived existential threat that the
post-colonial, ruling-Arab minority, Bashir/NCP/Islamists’ deep state, TMC are now feeling. Their fear is quite real; and therefore must be acknowledged & addressed by the Forces for the Declaration of Freedom & Change (FDC), if a peaceful transition for one & all is to be
realised within a “New North #Sudan” - and within a troubled #South Sudan too, by virtue of it still being inextricably linked sociopolitically & socioeconomically; associations that still remain; even after #SouthSudan’s Independence in 2011.
