In this video, a Venezuelan confronts @codepink on the irony of them supporting the dictator who oppresses those they claim to champion. When asked why poor people in Venezuela can’t find medicine, they answer: “they don’t have credit.”
#Venezuela’s economic collapse over the last 20 years can only be attributed to its fake communist-socialism model. When asked why the Maduro socialism model they support failed economically, @codepink can only cite US oil sanctions that have been in place for less than a year.
US first implemented sanctions in Venezuela in 2017 as a series of targeted frozen assets to a number of high-ranking government officials proven to be corrupt. You can read the list of names on the US Treasury page: treasury.gov/press-center/p…
The second set of sanctions were implemented on the oil industry in 2018 as a way to exert pressure on Maduro to step down after he overthrew the Venezuelan constitution and usurped power.
The point is, that after all of the facts are laid out, if you still want to go protest US sanctions and foreign policy, go ahead, but that shouldn’t mean you publicly endorse a dictator.
By focusing on critiquing the US rather than learning about Venezuela, it’s clear that while @codepink claims to be against US imperialism, they’re only able to view foreign struggles as a reaction to US politics.
@codepink’s invasion of the Venezuelan Embassy, by itself, is an act of imperialism.
Dear @CodePink: You will not reduce the Venezuelan struggle for freedom, for which thousands have died for, into a US critique. 🇻🇪
