THREAD: 1/ Jew-hatred is also a problem in @TheGreenParty. Jo Fitzgerald is a prominent activist in Teesside and was candidate for Stockton South in the 2017 general election. She believes that "#antisemitism was invented by a Jewish lobby" because it was "beneficial for Israel".

2/ Unsurprisingly, Jo Fitzgerald is sceptical about allegations of antisemitism, opposes the IHRA working definition and argues that Jews appropriated the 'Semite' label without consulting the "remaining Semites" as if they were "the only valid population in the Arabian region".

3/ Jo Fitzgerald is very concerned about Jewish influence, even objecting to Facebook including "Jewish iconography" among its range of status update backgrounds. But then she remembered "the origins of Zuckerberg", which no doubt explained it all for her.

4/ Fitzgerald believes Jews control US policy through "Trump the puppet and the bought government", describes Benjamin Netanyahu as "the demon breeding as a generation of haters across Europe and in all sentient beings" and suspects Israel was behind nerve gas attacks in Syria.

5/ I complained to the Green Party about Jo Fitzgerald's antisemitism last year and I understand its disciplinary committee issued her with a formal censure. But that doesn't appear to have caused any self-reflection on her part and she continues to espouse these views.

6/ Jo Fitzgerald isn't the only Green Party member with such views around here. In nearby Hartlepool, there's Christopher J Eddie, who stood as a local election candidate in 2015 and came to the attention of @antisemitism three years ago. Jo has often defended his views online.
