35+ state laws in 2019 have joined to try to overthrow Roe vs. Wade

“There is great misunderstanding about the actual meaning of having the right to an abortion. A lot of this misunderstanding is pushed by well-meaning liberals so I want to discuss it…Long essay ahead.”

The right to abortion is NOT about the right to not be a parent. Women already have the right to not be a parent through adoption & safe haven laws in some states

Abortion is specifically about the right to NOT be pregnant/endure child birth.
This is the right to bodily autonomy
Reproductive labor is not only a biological function, it is also the base form of labor for all economic systems.

Economies cannot function [are not sustainable] if women are not constantly producing new humans.

[Examle: the concern in Japan for declining birth rates.]
Until science figures out how to grow viable human lives[Gattica]in a lab, childbirth will always be more valuable to capitalism than any other form of labor or technology. Reproduction can only be performed by women. Thus, women need protective rights under capitalism as a class
Pregnancy & child birth are dangerous.

Pregnancy is overly romanticized in western culture [w/deep seeded roots in religion]

So many view childbirth as fantasy w/no understanding of the risks.

This is obvious from the US’ stance on maternal healthcare & maternity leave laws.
Death, organ damage, prolapse, hysterectomy, loss of sexual function, PTSD, chronic pain, bone fracture, tearing, episiotomies, additional surgeries [post-partum depression, rising US infant mortality rates] & more.

Women of color and low-income women receive the brunt of this.
When you take away a woman's right to abortion, you are ordering her to potentially endure the things listed above. You are sacrificing her health & life for a different human without her consent.

It’s defining the POTENTIAL of life over a living, sentinel life over another.
Mainstream liberals fall into the trap of debating when "life" begins. This debate is ridiculous because it is all technically "life."
Bacteria is life, ants are life, your burger was a life, zygotes are also life. It shouldn't be taboo to discuss a fetus being a POTENTIAL life.
We cannot argue [a potential life] honestly if we get offended & triggered by debates about life.

There are many different abortion experiences, some simple & relieving, but some are truly mourned as a death. Both reactions are normal. It's your own experience with your own body
All of these arguments around "life" distract from the actual issue, which is that:
🔹No human should be required to share their organs w/another human
🔹No human should be required to sacrifice their life for another human
A woman is NOT obligated to give their body to a zygote or fetus [or the POSSIBILITY of human life.]

The intention or reason behind obtaining an abortion is irrelevant in the context of the right to bodily autonomy.

It is NOT any woman’s obligation to ensure humanity continues.
Liberal "pro-choice" men who aggressively insist that abortion is ok because a fetus isn't a life are subtly implying that a woman's right to bodily automony is conditional and dependent on the status of a zygote or fetus.
Some of these men's views on women's bodies are not fundamentally different than that of conservative pro-lifers. Beware of lefty-dude-bros in positions of power who make these kinds of arguments.

[This is part of the patriarchy, misogynistic arrogance, and it’s misconception.]
There are people who will die if they don't receive organ transplants. Yet the government cannot force you to donate your organs or blood to another person.

This right to refuse organ donation to bodily autonomy even extends past death.
…[Some (Typ. religious fanaticists in their fantasies) believe you need this in their fabricated afterlife]

If you don't legally agree to be an organ donor while still alive, they will bury your healthy, viable organs in the ground instead of using them to save another human.
So why does this concept [of organ donation, or in the case of pregnancy/entire body donation] suddenly change when a woman becomes pregnant? Why must a women sacrifice her blood and organs for the fetus when post-birth humans are not entitled to even a dead person's body parts?
When ANY government makes abortion illegal, the government is taking legal ownership over women’s bodies, pregnant or not pregnant, and denying them the right to make decisions about their own organs [and bodily autonomy.]
Women cannot be fully free and autonomous if FORCED pregnancy & childbirth becomes required by law. Everyone is allowed to have their own feelings about abortion, but they are NOT allowed to sacrifice other peoples bodies because of their feelings.
I recommend reading Judith Jarvis Thomson's essay "A Defense of Abortion" which makes a detailed argument for women's bodily autonomy.

Thread from Erin Costello via FB with additions or edits for 280c.
She said this much better than I could articulate into words.

We’re witnessing the systematic destruction of women’s rights come to fruition under religious evangelicals & a politicizing GOP

We ARE in pre-Gilead
For some reason and although I added it, this image didn’t show in that last tweet. Threads on twitter can glitch in The Matrix.

It is the last part of Erin’s statement.
