Perhaps he was using Jesus only to beat the missionaries with their own stick. In any case, the Brahmo Samaj he founded had to pay a high price for his praise of Jesus.

Keshub Chunder Sen who took over the Brahmo Samaj at a later stage became infatuated with Jesus, so much so that he got alienated more or less completely from the Hindu society at large.

That's true. As per Dr. R.C. Majumdar, until the 1800 East India Company's government was maintaining the pretence of non-interference in the religion of the natives. But the collapse of Maratha power ended this.

One Padre named William Wilberforce was agitating in England pressing Brit Parliament for opening the Indian field to Christian missionaries. But Maratha threat had prevented the British government from patronizing Christianity openly.

Wilberforce used atrocity literature collected by Padres in India to counter English admirers of Indian culture during debates in parliament. For this he used sati, infanticide, throwing the children into the Ganga, religious suicides, and above all, idolatry.

Wilberforce won the day in Brit Parliament when the Charter of the East India Company came up for renewal in 1813. Missionaries were given full freedom to enter India and propagate their criminal creed.

Had India really got the freedom, this thing should have been reversed on 15th August 1947 but then we all know what happened.
