5. If you attack your opponent rather than the facts, you lose.

20. If you fail to understand that good things and bad things can both be happening simultaneously (e.g. employment growth, and job losses), you lose
21. If you claim to be speaking for every single person in the UK, you lose
22. If you claim that you know what everyone was voting for when they voted Leave, you lose
23. If you claim that people voted for No Deal during the referendum itself, you lose
24. If you call the referendum the "largest democratic exercise" or claim it delivers the "strongest ever mandate", you lose
25. If you're taking offence at this list without understanding why you're offended by it, you lose

Paradoxically his star is on the ascendant precisely because so many contenders have swerved straight for no deal, leaving the field devoid of people for rational MPs to vote for.
In other words, it's so very Brexit! No room in the empty middle, just extremism or rationalism.

(This may be daft as it's completely off the cuff based on the student loan news today.) Why not turn student loans into young people loans? In other words, everyone qualifies when they turn 18. Loans would be repaid on the same timeframe/thresholds as students do now.
That would let young people take apprenticeships, internships etc. without worrying where their next meal came from, or pool resources to start a company, or begin saving a deposit for a home, or do any one of a myriad things.
It might be too expensive, too hard to police, too complicated to administer. But it might also be a genuine way of giving everyone a solid start in adult life, regardless of the path they choose.

Petty Sajid Javid proactively vetoes a second Scottish referendum. Pathetic!
Danger is this turns into a "test of strength" for other Tory leadership hopefuls... Will the out-of-touch Tory membership demand "no deal Brexit + no to Scottish referendum" as price of their support?
The slippery slope is forming before our eyes. 10, 11, 12 candidates in the race, each taking a different hardline position. Every time they say something outrageous, the Tory members' eyes light up like New Year fireworks... so every other candidate adopts that position too.
By the end of the leadership race, we may see candidates advocating the death penalty and public flogging. Somewhere along the way, expressing political dissent will have become a crime. Gilead, Pacem and the world of 1984 all rolled into one, then raised to the Nth degree.

BXP has no manifesto, no detailed policies & no plan for #Brexit (no, "just walk away" isn't a serious plan outside of a pub!)

Why are people willing to vote for a shady outfit that isn't a party, has dodgy finances & will likely adopt #UKIP's *no work* habit?

What's more, BXP now say they want to run in the next GE, even though the leader admits #Brexit isn't the answer to any of our domestic problems — you know, all those problems Leave voters thought Brexit was going to fix.

Somehow it feels like this is all about the salary and perks for some of the BXP's candidates, and that they're not taking the business of representing our country in an international forum seriously - as indeed those who were previously part of UKIP never have.

On Monday, MPs approved Sir Oliver Letwin’s proposal to give control of the Commons Order Paper on Wednesday 27 March to backbench MPs so that they could hold indicative votes on alternatives to the Prime Minister’s #Brexit deal.
The decision to back ‘The Letwin Amendment’ was seen as controversial as it disapplied a Commons rule - Standing Order 14(1) - which says that the Government largely controls what business is debated in the House.

The increased support for a ‘no deal’ Brexit is the ultimate failure of the Leave movement. It’s the inevitable consequence of the refusal to grasp details, come to terms with complexity & coalesce around a plan. Compromise can be frustrating. So instead they will have a tantrum.
Some Brexiteers advocated sensible solutions. The EFTA/EEA solution gained a lot of traction in the years before the ref. Even Farage had promoted it & countless others. See Farage below from 2011 essentially making the ‘Liberal Leave’ case!

As I often say here, if you look closely at the EU structure, it is the Kaiser's plan for a post-WW1 German Europe, with a weak periphery tied to a (Franco)Teutonic core. (map from Fischer's "Germany's Aims in the First World War"). Were I German, I would support the EU.
The EU is, roughly, the Kaiser's plan for post-WW1 Europe: a Teutonic centre & currency plus a cooperative/vassal periphery. This is not some conspiracy but the EU working as it should esp where its economic & organisational centre lies. It is also what makes #Brexit inevitable.
Adoption of the Euro locked formerly sovereign nations into a German entente. All these low growth countries would have devalued their currencies years ago to make exports more attractive and invite tourists. Instead they are stuck in a decade's stagnation

1) Sir Ivan Rogers speech, a sobering & devastating speech from our former leading EU diplomat on #Brexit, its history and the UK position.

Should be read by *everyone* however I'll pull out a few key points in this thread

2) the UK already had the best deal of all EU member states. We may not have believed it but the other 27 nations did.
Anyone who thinks about this for more than 5 minutes would realise this
Cameron in fact managed to improve it further, but the press torpedoed his deal
3) the 4 freedoms are seen as indivisible by the EU27. Trucks & money having more rights to move than people is absolutely unacceptable to them. That's just a fact.
Anyone, Labour or Tory, who tells you we can get a great deal without free movement of people is lying to you
