Finished season 1 of #Barry last night. I've never seen a tonal shift this intensely satisfying outside of anime. It's actually something I especially love in anime - funny/cutesy show that goes mega dark in a hurry.
I think there's actually a deeper meaning to this than just "this is an original idea." It really hammers home how you really can't balance a normal life with a life of crime. It may seem possible for a while, but it always catches up to you in the end.
I haven't watched Better Call Saul yet, but I gather it's more comedic than Breaking Bad and therefore maybe closer to this but yes, I frequently thought of BB while watching this.
And I gotta give it up to Bill Hader for showing some real range. This is the second goofy SNL actor that I've seen pull a staggering dramatic performance out of nowhere in the last few years. The other was Jason Sudeikis in Colossal.
