I have an *insane* work ethic- but it’s extremely irreverent, unruly, disobedient. It follows its own internal compass and refuses to be controlled by anyone, including/especially me

When I said this at 17, it sounded like I was making excuses

When I say it at 29, people listen
In 30 years or less, people will probably call it genius. I can’t even take credit for it, it’s not really me. I’m the janitor.

My job is to be the interface between that psycho & the “real” world, where y’all play this elaborate game where things are supposed to “make sense”
The phrase "attention deficit" pisses me off, tbh. Who's to say what somebody should be paying attention to? I pay attention to what I think is interesting. I pay LOTS. and LOTS. of attention. To what I think is interesting. If anything, I have attention SURPLUS
the doodles I did in class when I "wasn't paying attention" ended up becoming t-shirts that tens thousands of people have bought

who's to say!! where attention should be directed!!! most people have no clue

most people don't even know wtf attention really IS, imo

what I really have is Obedience Deficit Disorder

I refuse to Pay Attention to something that Does Not Deserve My Attention

we put down self-directed children and then wonder why there are so few self-directed adults

there's definitely been a conflation at some point between "consideration, observant care" and ATTENTION!!! in the military regimentation sense

In general, Singaporeans are very good at the latter, and not all that great at the former
Here are people who (voluntarily!) came to Pay Attention to me... to hear me talk about what I did instead of Paying Attention In Class

PS: my talk is really “piddling around until people pay you” but I had to make it sound all professional-like

Look at me,,, I am the teacher now

But actually, look at whatever the hell you feel like looking at

If you don’t want to look at me, that’s fantastic!! you should pay attention to whatever *you* feel like doing
