The Tory leadership candidates have learned nothing at all from the last 3 years. They're falling over each other to offer tax cuts and other sweeteners (most aimed at their tiny Tory membership base. But Brexit will cut the legs out from under any spending plan, making it moot.

But of course all these empty promises are doing double duty: they're filling the headlines with the idea that "Tories = goodies & giveaways", which tees things up nicely for a snap GE if one is precipitated by events around Brexit. So I wouldn't hold your breath for rationality.

That's the problem: it's all so, so predictable, like someone repeating "I'm going to punch you" over and over again before they punch you. But if history is our guide, at least some of the electorate will be fooled by the Tories yet again.
