If you're married or in a long-term relationship, what's the longest you've been apart from your partner while you were still together? (ie not during a temporary break-up or similar, I mean)

(For me, it's about 4 months a few years ago when my wife's mother was quite ill.)

Now, imagine that you or a family member has fallen foul of the Home Office's hostile immigration policy, and you face the prospect of years or decades away from loved ones. Hardly bears thinking about, does it?
