Per 13 US Code § 221, full participation in the upcoming census appears mandatory (if relatively mild in degree of penalty.) Some folks on Twitter don't seem committed to following this particular statute, however.

We downloaded tweets containing the word "census" in combination with "boycott", "skip", "refuse", "ignore", or "won't/will not fill out", as well as #BoycottTheCensus/#Boycott2020Census since 1/1/2019, yielding 10018 tweets from 8207 accounts.
The census boycott tweets form separate left and right-wing networks. Far more of the right-wing network is actually suggesting a boycott (15% false positives vs 63% for the left), though this may change if the administration somehow adds the question despite the court ruling.
Interest in boycotting the census has emerged seven times thus far this year, each correlating to an event related to the proposed citizenship question (most recently the SCOTUS decision banning the question and the Dept of Commerce's announcement they won't pursue it further.)
All that being said, we're not quite sure what to make of this whole #BoycottTheCensus thing: Thoreau-ian civil disobedience, criminal sociopathy, or some third possibility we haven't yet considered?
