#AGBarr yesterday: "A new decision to add the question would ultimately survive judicial review." The AG also blasted hysterical media that suggested @realDonaldTrump would ignore judicial review, saying he would and @POTUS would never have done this. 1
#AGBarr thus said exactly what rule-of-law conservatives believed from start; The question was legitimate and defensible, and @realDonaldTrump would ultimately have won. Why then not add question and begin litigation anew? DOJ had represented to courts that delay was a killer.
#AGBarr said as much. So kill all previous efforts and start over, add people and resources and do it right and faster. Starting over and fighting the battle again, even if it meant a year's delay in #20202Census would have been preferable to throwing in towel.
Perhaps @realDonaldTrump will change his mind over the weekend as he reads the reactions and hears the disappointment. He will sense that this sort of a retreat is injurious to a significant slice of his core support, especially when the Chief Justice gave him a map to victory.
