I love seeing more cultural events but also think most can become intimidating to first timers or introverts to the space. A cultural space entails a place that’s converted through cultural activity like a concert, theatre, exhibition, museum, hobbyist displays, card meets etc.
Within a cultural space familiarity and a sense of safety among peers might create a sense of hostility or coldness for newcomers. It’s hard getting into a room when you don’t know anyone.
What can we do to make our cultural spaces more inviting to newcomers or those curious about them. This is all assuming of course the person is entering a cultural space with genuine interest.

Interviews. It’s a skill that requires research and preparation but mostly the ability to have an honest conversation. Recently it’s a dominant form for local media outlets, magazines and blogs.
Looking back at the local interviews I’ve enjoyed what I look for: setting of a scene (location/time), the story behind their most well known trait, the context of the current work they are doing/promoting, and an honest conversation.
Probably ‘an honest conversation’ is hardest to quantify. It’s made up from unguarded moments, when the interview touches on aspects of their personality nobody has remarked on, or breaking through a formal barrier between the interviewer and the interviewee.
