The facts you need in advance of the #SOTU

Throughout his presidency, Trump has repeatedly and shamelessly lied and exaggerated about the economy. At his first State of the Union tonight, we can expect more of the same.
Trump launched his presidency by promising America that the “forgotten men and women will be forgotten no longer.” It’s now clearer than ever that those words represent a central lie of the Trump presidency. 2/
The president made big promises to grow the economy, bring back jobs, raise wages and protect American workers, all of which have gone unfulfilled. 3/
Under Trump job growth slowed to the lowest in seven years 4/
Offshoring of manufacturing jobs increased, and the Trump tax may actually encourage companies to move jobs overseas. 5/
Under Trump our trade deficit with China grew. 6/
Under Trump wage growth was stagnant. 7/
Under Trump the stock market grew at a slower rate than it did during this same period of Obama’s presidency. If you watch TV or read articles you wouldn’t know that. Because the opposite is always stated. 8/
A defining theme of Trump’s first year in office has been his insatiable desire to enrich the wealthy and big corporations at the expense of working Americans. 9/
Trump and his party spent the better part of the year trying to take away health care from tens of millions of Americans, and when that failed, they passed a tax bill that gives more than 80% of its benefits to the top 1% over the next decade. 10/
At the same time, Trump and his cabinet waged war against working families through quieter efforts. This past year, Trump has: 11/
Proposed cutting job training programs by 40%. 12/
Overturned a rule that would have made it easier for workers to collectively bargain with big corporations. 13/
Reversed a rule that would have helped millions get paid for overtime. 14/
Made it harder for Americans to save for retirement. 15/
Trump and Republicans have made it clear that they’ll continue their campaign to reward the wealthy at the expense of the middle class. Democrats will keep fighting to create an economy that works for everyone, 16/
and we’ll fight to ensure that every American has the opportunity get ahead and stay ahead. 17/
