Next question: Recent legislation focused on adoption and religion. How does your interpretation of 1st Amendment address religious liberty.
Jones: We need to focus on the children.
Powell: We have a lack of foster and adoptive parents. We have freedom of religion and orgs have right to operate as they choose, but they don't have right to do that on public dollar.
Edmondson: My understanding is that the bill allows private agencies to stay private, but they can't do it with public money.
Lawhorn: Govt. can't discriminate for any reason. End of question. But if private org wants to limit, they can but it can't be affiliated with govt.
Stephens: For private adoptions and fosters, they can limit on religious grounds. But not if they receive public money.
Fisher: We religious freedom or we don't. If people don't want to do business, they can go to another place. But not with public money. Has to come back to liberty.
Joe Exotic: Why are we even involved? if they want to discriminate, that's their choice, but not on public money. WE have our nose in way too many businesses.
Barnett: Law does discriminate against gay couples. Notes he and his husband would like to adopt one day.
