1/8 A thread about Europe's dangerous refusal to vote for the extension of the UN arms embargo against Iran.
@UKUN_NewYork @franceonu @GermanyUN put out similar explanations. They are all contradictory.

@francediplo @GermanyDiplo @foreignoffice
gov.uk/government/spe… 2/8 The E3 do criticize Iran's "destabilizing actions," arms transfers to Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and "non-state actors" i.e. Hezbollah. Lifting the embargo "would have major implications for regional security."

So why did they agree to it in 2015?

1/6 What a disgraceful distortion. The issue isn't that they are Arab but anti-Zionist MKs, some even back terror. Tibi himself praised "martyrs." The fact that he studied at Hebrew U and that so many Arab doctors lead in their field is testament to Israel's strive for equality. 2/6 Arabs have a place at the table, it's called the Knesset. Tibi was its Deputy President. This doesn't mean the government has to include the Islamist, post-Communist and Arab nationalist parties, who all deny the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish and democratic state.

1/10 It's rather poignant that the first anniversary of the US withdrawal from the #JCPOA overlaps with Israel's Memorial Day for her 23,741 fallen soldiers and 3,150 terror victims. After all, many of these deaths in the past 40 years were caused by Iran.
bit.ly/2H8eZok 2/10 For the most recent Israeli victims of Iranian aggression look no further than to the four Israelis killed in the last #Gaza conflict, which was started and driven by #IslamicJihad, one of the many terror proxies funded and armed by Tehran.

1/9 Given the possibility of another major #Gaza war, I put together a quick reporter's guide for how to properly cover the #Israeli-#Palestinian conflict. I hope this will be useful not just for rookies but also old hands, who may need a refresher course. m.jpost.com/Arab-Israeli-C… 2/9 Reverse chronology and causality. It's crucial to lead with the #Israeli response and burry somewhere deep in the text the barrage of unprovoked #Palestinian rockets that preceded the response. Under no circumstances must the headline reflect the true course of events.

1/13 As a former opinion page writer, I tip my hat to the @nytimes @nytopinion for this strong, self-examining editorial. It didn't though answer all the questions while raising new ones. I hope the editors will consider this thread as they move forward.
nytimes.com/2019/04/30/opi… 2/13 You write the cartoon was chosen by just one editor. But why took it senior management three days to say "sorry" and to unequivocally condemn it as anti-Semitic?
