Labor Day is about celebrating the progress won by American workers. And on this Labor Day, it's worth celebrating the resurgence of unions in our country.

This summer has provided plenty of examples of the power of unions, collective action, and solidarity. 🧵 Image UPS workers recently won a new contract that boosts their wages, ends forced overtime work, and ensures all of their delivery trucks have air conditioning. nbcnews.com/business/busin…

We just won the most important election of 2023! @janetforjustice’s victory tonight creates a liberal majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court ahead of anticipated seismic cases on abortion access, voting rights, and fair maps. This is a huge win for our democracy! It puts an end to the judicial rubber stamp for the rigged legislature’s experiments in anti-majoritarian governance in a state that has become a testing ground for the GOP’s efforts to lock in minority rule across the country.

What’s happening in Nashville this week is about gun violence and our continued fight for our lives. It’s also about the MAGA GOP’s reflexive need to attack our democracy any time they’re confronted with the deadly consequences of their policies. 🧵tn.chalkbeat.org/2023/4/3/23668… Students at school, congregants at places of worship, shoppers at grocery stores: no matter who we are, we're all at continued risk because of legislative inaction. Folks in Tennessee, like countless communities devastated by gun violence, are literally fighting for their lives.

Speaking of shameful, let's talk about some of the actually shameful things @RealMarkFinchem does (like being too afraid to @ us).

Let’s start with being a self-identified member of the Oath Keepers. time.com/6203011/mark-f… Image Mark Finchem isn’t just talk though - he traveled across the country to join his fellow Oath Keepers for the insurrection on January 6 at the US Capitol.

*taps microphone* And now an important message from Secretary @HillaryClinton!

We're all focused on winning the midterms and defending our congressional majorities. That’s critical. But we also must take the fight to MAGA Republicans at the state level: crushthecoup.org All our Crush the Coup candidates are running in highly competitive races and we’ve identified one from each state who is facing extra challenges that an infusion of late cash will help them overcome. If you're able, please consider making a donation: secure.actblue.com/donate/crushth… Image

🚨 Lower energy bills. Lower prescription drug costs. Lower healthcare premiums. Lower carbon emissions. That's what this bill is about, and that's why it's critical that Democrats finally came together to pass this historic legislation. Democrats are making necessities more affordable, passing the largest climate bill in history, and taking steps to make the ultra wealthy and big corporations pay their fair share in taxes.

Elections have consequences, and so does activism.

.@TheOtherMandela has long been a champion fighting to improve the lives of regular folks across Wisconsin! He’s the kind of transformational leader we need in the Senate to be that 51st vote, and that’s why Wisconsin Indivisibles have been supporting his campaign since early on. Tonight, we’re seeing what happens when the progressive movement consolidates early: we get the strongest candidate to take on and defeat MAGA Republicans like Ron Johnson.

The most effective thing you can do as a constituent is pressure your own members of Congress to take legislative action. It’s where you have the most leverage — and legislation is better and longer-lasting than actions taken by any president.

But we're in a critical moment. 🧵 The Senate is nearly gridlocked. We aren't giving up but we also need solutions that aren't held hostage by dysfunction. The American people can't afford to wait.

We need @POTUS' administration to take bold executive action on a variety of issues that families are facing today.

Sen. Sinema's remarks on the Senate floor today were egregious, frustrating--but not unexpected. Despite what she had to say, this is not the time for Senate Democrats to accept defeat and go home. Sen. Sinema says she wants a robust public debate – so let’s have one. Majority Leader Schumer has a plan to bring this to the Senate floor for debate on Monday. Let’s have that debate, move forward & eventually make everyone – including Sen. Sinema – state their position for the history books. Will she choose our democracy and sacred right to vote?

*record scratch* We interrupt our regularly-scheduled democracy reform programming to let you know we're VERY excited to endorse @TheOtherMandela, @JamieforOregon and @Marie4Congress! These grassroots champions will bring the fight for progressive change to the halls of Congress. .@TheOtherMandela is a historic candidate running in a historic moment. Poised to become the youngest ever and first Black Senator from Wisconsin, and having grown up in one of the poorest zip codes in the state, Mandela is the kind of transformational leader we need right now. Today’s oral arguments on Mississippi’s ban on abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy is further proof that the conservative justices at the Supreme Court are more interested in promoting a far-right extremist ideology than defending the Constitution. 🧵 Mississippi’s draconian abortion ban is clearly unconstitutional under the Court’s own precedent, and the fact that this case is being heard at all shows just how far off the rails the conservative justices have gone.

🧵 We are exactly one year away from the midterm elections.

And we are excited to tell you about our first endorsements for 2022! Our endorsements program focuses on supporting progressive champions so they have the resources required to compete in and win Democratic primaries. Here's how our endorsements program works: Indivisible groups across the country nominate candidates, who are vetted and asked to complete a questionnaire covering vital issues. Then the nomination is voted on by all Indivisibles in the candidate's district.

ExxonMobil was finally caught on camera detailing what activists have been screaming about for decades: dark money = political influence. Their mobs of lobbyists have been meeting weekly with a group of lawmakers to pressure them to weaken the climate investments in the bipartisan infrastructure package. So now we have the ExxonMobil plan.

156 years ago today, slaves in Galveston, Texas heard this order, telling them they had been freed from bondage.

The infuriating irony of Junteenth is that, like the rest of Black liberation in this country, it should have come much sooner. President Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation into law more than two and a half years before General Order Number 3 was released. Robert E. Lee had surrendered a month before. Lincoln -- the “executive” in the first line -- was already dead.

Just nine days ago, Joe Manchin wrote an op-ed that said he’d “vote against” S.1, the For the People Act. A lot of talking heads wrote the bill’s obituary. But ORGANIZING WORKS. Activists in WV kept going, and now Manchin is back at the negotiating table. washingtonpost.com/politics/manch… That’s an encouraging sign, but the devil’s in the details. We need to make sure that the For the People Act doesn’t get watered down. That means keeping in incredibly important, and incredibly popular, provisions like public financing and same-day voter registration.

The House just passed @RepBarbaraLee's bill to repeal the 2002 Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) in Iraq, nearly two decades after it was put in place. This is a crucial step to #StopEndlessWar. motherjones.com/mojo-wire/2021… This repeal is long past due. Presidents do not have the constitutional authority to unilaterally wage war, and we've seen the consequences of this unchecked military action - at steep financial, human, and moral cost.

Our Senate allies are asking for a massive show of grassroots force: deadlinefordemocracy.org So here's what we're planning: a nationwide campaign called Deadline for Democracy during the July 4th Recess, which starts on June 28th (two weeks from today).

June and July are absolutely crucial for getting the For the People Act through the Senate.
