We are immensely grateful to God for another opportunity to celebrate our children, today, May 27, 2023. Every Children’s Day reminds us of the future, and the necessary sacrifices and building blocks by parents, guardians, teachers, leaders, and Government to secure our greatest assets on earth, the YOUNGER ONES.

In eight years, I am proud to say that we have doubled Nigeria’s stock of infrastructure to GDP from about 20% to over 40%, and that is no small undertaking. This happened when global oil prices plunged to almost zero, when we encountered a recession that was not predicted, when we dealt with a pandemic that was unforeseen and when we are still grappling with the global effects of an ongoing war in Europe.

Today I virtually flagged off oil exploration activities in Nasarawa State,by @nnpclimited. The spud-in of the Ebenyi-A Well will ultimately deliver outcomes that benefit surrounding communities, lead to greater prosperity for all Nigerians, & enhance our overall energy security. Image I thank the Government and people of Nasarawa State, and especially the host community, for their support and collaboration towards the success of this exploration campaign.

I congratulate His Excellency @officialABAT on his victory. Elected by the people, he is the best person for the job. I shall now work with him and his team to ensure an orderly handover of power. The election was Africa’s largest democratic exercise. In a region that has undergone backsliding and military coups in recent years, this election demonstrates democracy’s continued relevance and capability to deliver for the people it serves.

Since my assumption of office, we have worked so hard to ensure that we pass on a legacy of free, fair, credible, safe, and peaceful elections. We will continue to act with neutrality and allow the rule of law to take precedence over political expediency. We have demonstrated that with the off-cycle elections in Edo, Ondo, Anambra, Ekiti and Osun States. We allowed Nigerians to decide who should govern them. We are committed to this legacy in this administration.

I telephoned the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to offer condolences on the death of his mother-in-law, Sheikha Maryam Al Falasi. May her soul rest in perfect peace.
I also urged him to lift the blanket visa ban by the UAE on Nigerians. Nigeria and the UAE have enjoyed excellent and beneficial relations for many years, including at the highest political levels. We can and must continue to iron out whatever issues arise between us.

We are reforming the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI). The old MOFI was not structured to deliver on the mandate expected of it. The new MOFI will operate in line with global best practices, as a trusted custodian and manager of @NigeriaGov investments and assets. To this end, I have charged the new Governing Council and Board of Directors, which I inaugurated yesterday, to grow MOFI's Assets Under Management from the current value of 18 trillion Naira, to at least 100 trillion Naira in the next 10 years.

I heartily rejoice with our Christian brothers and sisters on the occasion of this year’s Christmas. Many of us look forward to this festive season as a time to travel, share gifts, spend quality time with family and friends, attend special carols and events, and generally relive the good moments of the year.

Today in Abuja I commissioned the National Shared Services Centre. The Center, which houses a Cybersecurity Operations Centre, Network Centre & Call Centre, is a one-stop-shop for @NigeriaGov’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies to interface with citizens. Four hundred @NigeriaGov Ministries, Departments and Agencies are already connected to the National Shared Services Centre. We have by this vital project taken a leap forward in terms of expanding the opportunities for Government to engage and interface with Nigerians.

We are delighted by the discovery of over 1 billion barrels of oil reserves and 500 billion cubic feet of gas within the Kolmani area, with huge potential for more. This successful discovery of the Kolmani oil and gas field by NNPCL and her partners has finally broken the jinx. This discovery has emanated from our charge to @nnpclimited to re-strategize & expand its oil & gas exploration footprints to the frontier basins: Anambra, Dahomey, Sokoto, Benue trough, Chad & Bida Basins. Similar exploration activities across other basins are currently ongoing.

How Not To Talk With Africa About Climate Change

My Op-Ed in @washingtonpost, as the world gathers in Egypt for #COP27.

washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/… Part of my nation is underwater. Seasonal flooding is normal in Nigeria, but not like this. Thirty-four of the country’s 36 states have been affected. More than 1.4 million people have been displaced.

I welcome the exploratory interactions between Nigerian biomedical scientists and the Federal Ministry of Health; and BioNTech SE, with the ultimate goal of achieving the production of mRNA vaccines in Nigeria. I’m confident the collaboration will be a productive one. ImageImage Today at the State House I met with Mr. Holm Keller, Executive Chairman of @KenupFoundation & representative of the CEO of BioNTech, which holds mRNA vaccine patents. I made it clear that Nigeria’s scientific community has the capacity to engage meaningfully and add great value. ImageImage

Today in Abuja the Management of @BUAgroup paid me a visit, led by the Chairman, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu. It is always heartwarming to see and learn of Nigerian companies doing so much within Nigeria. BUA has shown and continues to show what is possible in Nigeria. ImageImage Most of this phenomenal growth recorded has been achieved during this administration. We have also seen similar successes especially in the food and agri-input value chain. These successes are clear testaments to the correctness of our programs and policies. ImageImage

I congratulate @biodunaoyebanji, the candidate of @OfficialAPCNg, as he is declared Governor-Elect in yesterday’s Ekiti State Gubernatorial election. A very well deserved victory, considering his contributions to the development of Ekiti State and the APC, over the years. I urge him to be magnanimous in victory, in the interest of the people of Ekiti State.

I would like to send my greetings and very best wishes to Muslims in Nigeria and across the world, on the successful end of Ramadan, and the commemoration of Eid-el-Fitr. After a period of fasting and reflection, this year, we have cause to welcome the occasion in hope. The battle waged against terrorists who falsely masquerade under the name of Islam is approaching its conclusion.

I receive daily security reports on the attacks on critical national infrastructure, and it is very clear that those behind them want this administration to fail. Whoever wants the destruction of the system will soon have the shock of their lives. We’ve given them enough time. I received a briefing today from the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on the series of attacks on their facilities nationwide. These attacks are totally unacceptable, and we will not allow those behind them to achieve their evil objectives.

I rejoice with Christians on the occasion of this year’s Easter celebration. It is an opportunity to renew hope and faith, show love and appreciation to one another and not to despair, no matter the challenges of the period. This time last year, in most of our major cities, our celebrations were somewhat subdued, as we battled the effect of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Today we formally launched “The Decade of Gas” in Nigeria. The rising global demand for cleaner energy sources has offered Nigeria an opportunity to exploit gas resources for the good of the country. We intend to seize this opportunity. When we declared 2020 as “The Year of Gas” in Nigeria,it was a bold statement to demonstrate our Administration’s resolve that gas development & utilization should be a national priority. Now we’re going a step further to dedicate this decade to industrializing Nigeria using gas.

Nigeria and Morocco have signed an agreement to develop a $1.3 billion Basic Chemicals Platform in Nigeria that will produce Ammonia and various NPK and DAP fertilisers, using Nigeria’s gas reserves. We are well on our way to becoming a regional and global fertiliser power house. The new Plant when completed will complement the existing Dangote & Indorama Chemicals facilities which produce urea, ammonia & other industrial raw materials. These are in addition to dozens of fertilizer blending plants we‘ve revived under the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative.
