I have always been concerned by big tech companies, whether American or otherwise, collecting the data of American citizens.

I’m also against the current bill to ban TikTok. As written, the bill gives the president the authority to unilaterally determine which foreign-owned companies present a “national security threat,” and can unilaterally order these companies to be divested from their foreign owners.

🧵 1. The Supreme Court of the United States does, in fact, have ethical standards. 2. This is a solution in search of a problem, but it's a solution that would cause a lot of other problems.

🧵 1. The politicization of the FBI represents a clear and present danger to our democratic principles, and it is imperative that we address this issue with the urgency it demands. 2. Based on past experience, the FBI is incapable of instigating and implementing the necessary reforms internally.

🚨 SIGNED BY 43 GOP SENATORS 🚨

1/ The Senate Republican conference is united behind the House Republican conference in support of spending cuts and structural budget reform as a starting point for negotiations on the debt ceiling. 2/ Our economy is in free fall due to unsustainable fiscal policies. This trajectory must be addressed with fiscal reforms. Moreover, recent Treasury projections have reinforced the urgency of addressing the debt ceiling.

🧵 We’re abdicating our constitutional duty.

But today, by passing my amendment, we have the opportunity to ensure that all Americans have a voice in matters of war and peace. Unfortunately, we’ve strayed from our founding principles.

🧵1/4 I came away from the classified briefing with more questions than answers. President Joe Biden's lack of transparency is concerning and deeply disturbing. 2/4 Following the briefing, it is unclear as to whether these incidents are a series of extremely significant events being downplayed by the White House, or inconsequential incidents being exaggerated and blown out of proportion.

🧵 1/7 President Biden's silence in the face of multiple aircraft violating US airspace is inexcusable. 2/7 His staff and cabinet making light of the situation by joking about aliens and balloons does nothing more than trivialize the gravity of the situation and potentially undermine our national security.

As the negotiations surrounding the 4155-page spending package have played out, Democrats have become the puppets of the president. Late last evening, the White House descended on the Capitol to “team up” with Democrat deal makers to deliver a lie to the American people.

1/4 For almost a year, Utahns have been fighting through terrible conditions to work, to find work, to serve their neighbors and communities as best they can. Congress has failed to meet their standard of courage and duty. 2/4 This COVID relief bill - like the one Senate Democrats blocked for months out of pure partisan politics - contains some much-needed items to help Utahns recover including more funding for faster vaccine deployment and an expanded charitable deduction.

1/4 This is the spending bill under consideration in Congress today. I received it just moments ago, and will likely be asked to vote on it late tonight. It’s 5,593 pages long. I know there are some good things in it. I’m equally confident that there are bad things in it. 2/4 Here’s the really sad thing: we’re being told that there will be no opportunity to amend or improve it. As a result, nearly every member of Congress — House and Senate, Democrat or Republican — will have been excluded from the process of developing this bill,

The Jones Act turns 100 years old tomorrow, but this anniversary deserves little celebration. 1/4 The Jones Act, which restricts shipping between U.S. ports to vessels that are U.S. built, flagged, and crewed, makes it difficult for the U.S. to serve certain domestic markets with U.S.-produced natural gas. 2/4

It was great seeing Matthew Charles, the first person to benefit from #TheFirstStepAct, as a guest of President Trump tonight. Criminal justice reform is just the beginning of what we can accomplish together on a bipartisan basis. (1/4) There should be a commonsense solution to the migration crisis on our southern border. One that involves more beds, more judges, and yes, more wall. There is also much we can do on drug prices. (2/4)

I highly respect my colleague from Arkansas but everything in his tweet and this thread is 100% Fake News. 1/ First, the House Judiciary committee passed the First Step Act out of committee on May 9 of this year, and the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the highly similar Sentencing and Corrections Act out of committee on Feb 15 of this year. These are not new policies. 2/

What is the real context of today’s #SCOTUS hearing? Here are some facts: Over the next few days, senators will ask Judge #Kavanaugh questions about #SCOTUS cases, his record, and his qualifications. Some of these questions will be fair. Many others will be unfair.

Democrats have made it clear that their goal is to bury the Committee in paper, just to delay a vote. Their minds were made up before Kavanaugh was even nominated. They don’t want to see the papers, they want to see his nomination stalled. None of these papers will shine light on his legal approach. Being the inbox and outbox for a President doesn’t include giving legal advice; that’s the role for White House counsel, not the Staff Secretary.

The Due Process Guarantee Act would protect U.S. citizens on U.S. soil from being detained indefinitely without charge, counsel, or trial. @SenFeinstein and I introduced the DPGA in 2012. It passed with 67 votes, but was somehow removed from the NDAA before final passage.

Some quick thoughts on @WSJopinion claims that the War Powers Resolution is unconstitutional: 1/6 The WSJ claims that the War Powers Resolution is somehow unconstitutional, citing no authority other than themselves and saying that presidents since then have regarded it as wrong or unconstitutional. 2/6
