Managers, Know When to Stop Talking and Start Listening
As a manager, you probably have to talk a lot. You want people to have the guidance and direction they need, of course, and there are plenty of situations where you need to speak your mind.
But at some point, talking a lot can turn into overcommunicating. You can end up dominating conversations, which means employees’ perspectives aren’t being heard. To make sure you aren’t talking too much, listen as much as you speak.

Give Employees Flexible Options for Flexible Work
Flexibility at work means different things to different people. One person might need to leave early to pick up their kids, while someone else may want to work remotely on Fridays.
That’s why managers looking to create a flexible work culture should avoid a one-size-fits-all approach; dictating exactly how these policies may be used can make them less effective. Talk with your team about your expectations, so there are no surprises later on.
Most people have far more work than they can possibly get to. That’s why it’s so important to say no to things that aren’t a great use of your time. But turning people down can be uncomfortable.
To get better at it, practice saying no politely and gracefully. For example, if a colleague asks you to do something that isn’t your job, you might say: “That isn’t my area of expertise, but I’m happy to connect you with Kei, who could help.”
