Taught this to one of my godchildren today:

One of the most powerful things you can do to someone who dabbles in frenemy behavior is remove access.

My momma taught me this early. It’s been one of the most fascinating tools in my toolbox, thus far. It serves me as an adult. When I was harassed at lunch as a child, I decided to partake in lunch in the library.

Other folx followed. By the end of the year, we had a whole library crew.

People who decided that we would not allow access to us. Everyone in that crew is THRIVING.

In 2016, I decided to learn about my father’s father’s history. It wasn't necessarily a secret, but it wasn’t something my father wanted to delve into (at the time). As a history educator, I struggled with just knowing bits & pieces and took matters into my own hands… 2 weeks ago, I completed that part of my family history. It took 7 yrs, and I'm no genealogist. Making a TV show is WILD.

I had a concept three years ago—pitched it, and got producers behind me. We spent two years honing the vision, we onboarded a powerhouse to our team, and we spent our last year pitching. We now have the attention of a major network and I’m in meeting mode. I’ve been anxious tho because I have enough content for 10 seasons, but the perfect episode formula hadn’t hit yet.

Aight so boom 💥. I see this house listing on @zillow. I recognize it immediately. I’ve seen it during my walks in Brooklyn. The price tag is WILD. I’m wondering, “Why is this so much $$?”

(If you know the house...don’t give it away until I’m done with the thread.

I call my friend @TenyseW. Her family is BROOKLYN. They were here during Weeksville’s reign. I ask her, “Do you know this house?” She says, “Yes! What is it?”

I’m like, “Okay, it’s not just me.”

She suggests that we take a history trip. So we do. Y’all know I’m dramatic. 👇🏾
