read Shon Faye’s The Transgender Issue, a very potent read about the actual issues trans people in the uk face
the book very much lays out how “popular” discussions over trans people have completely obscured the picture and is meant for folks who are trying to be allies usually, i find such explainers (both by allies and minorities) to be too rudimentary, oversimplifying, and reminiscent of “tragedy porn” in order to arouse sympathies and pities
but i ended up being engrossed by this and appreciative of how it broaches many neglected subjects

for people unfamiliar with tlwiki’s 15 year history, the tl;dr is that “this community is a major reason why people are translating visual novels on an official capacity”
