I'm still coming to terms with how huge this event is. This was possibly the biggest eruption in 30 years. This produced a Pacific-wide tsunami triggered by a volcanic eruption, we havn't watched that before. Information from impacted communities is desperately bad. This is huge. We do not have information coming from a monitoring agency. We do not have monitoring equipment trying to see what will happen next. We cannot even see the vent! This is not normal. We have unmonitored eruptions for sure, this is impacting people and we are blind.

An eruption at La Palma has begun. For official information follow this account below. Be extra diligent with misinformation & rumors. Eruptions impact lives & the wrong information causes harm.

A fissure eruption with lava fountaining and lava flows: The official volcanology team is working hard to monitor this eruption and relay updates. You can see early moments of the La Palma eruption here (with a very clear message in all caps). Follow this account:

1/ It breaks my heart to see the fear that rumors bring. Volcanic activity happens all the time, around 40-50 ongoing eruptions, most small. La Palma/Cumbre Vieja is now getting the mega-tsunami fear treatment. Please be careful. This is a good read: blogs.agu.org/landslideblog/… 2/ As you can see this was written in 2013, because this sort of rumor circulates periodically. One week it's Yellowstone, the next it's a mega-tsunami. Why? Your fear means you click, that brings people money. Another response: debunkingdoomsday.quora.com/Debunked-At-ri…

#Masaya volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in Nicaragua. With a very active past, there is now a lava lake in the Santiago crater.

More about Masaya at @SmithsonianGVP: volcano.si.edu/volcano.cfm?vn… The active #Masaya crater formed in 1858-59. It's now the site of vigorous degassing incl. SO2 (sulfur dioxide) & the ~1000°C lava lake. You can see older lava flows in the crater wall.

Thread: @BNPB_Indonesia #Agung update by @Sutopo_BNPB
Magmatic eruption of Agung continues with ash plume heights to 2,500 - 3,000 m above the volcano.
facebook.com/HumasBNPB/post… Incandescence from lava is visible in the crater at night. Tremor is continuous. Alert level remains at IV, the highest level.
PVMBG continues to record increasing volcanic activity. The potential for a larger eruption is increasing.

Thread: Increased Status of #Agung, Bali From Level Ill (SIAGA) to Level IV (AWAS) by @id_magma magma.vsi.esdm.go.id/press/view.php…
(translated using Google, translations corrected by me) #Agung experienced inflation before the phreatic eruption of November 21, 2017 and inflation is also still recorded by a tiltmeter installed 4 km from the peak of Agung in the South. This indicates sufficiently strong pressure towards the surface.
