To liberal/progressive Jews who currently feel isolated I say this: You have a choice. You can chose to step out of your comfort zone, break friendships, be vocally not ok with what you see, or you can keep living with this feeling you have now forever. There is no third option. You're not going to "wait this out." In six months or a year when everyone has moved on to the election or whatever else will be happening - those people will still be there beside you and will still believe the things they said now. And the rest of us won't let anyone forget it.

It provided info and links on a certain minor event in the past but none of the links were correct and I even checked archival copies of the paper it cited and found nothing. Totally made up info.

The fact that TikTok is an incubator for social contagion has to be deliberate, and here's my argument: If there wasn't some kind of subtle hidden hand behind amplifying the crazy, why would the CCP need an entirely separate-but-identical app for use in China? 1/4 You can't get TikTok in China, only Douyin, which is exactly TikTok but without any of the content that's on TikTok. You can download Douyin in the West but cannot get TikTok in China. They would easily have the ability to run one system with a China content filter but don't. 2/4

The most offensive thing about Colbert is how low effort his material is. The "talking past each other" flavor of today is that it was known that Twitter *could* do stuff to your tweets and that as a private company they were *allowed* to do it, but they also denied doing this to the extent and with the tilt that they did. That's the "revelatory" part. So the idea that "this was well reported" is a dodge. The existence of certain abilities and the freedom to use them are a separate matter from what Twitter executives and their media cheerleaders insisted wasn't happening, while it clearly was.

Here's my take on the "Guyladriel" controversy: I think a character this old can go through multiple incarnations in their life. Right now, her warlike nature feels like a natural progression of her grief. Her brother was a soldier, and to continue his fight, she must be too. 1/5 However, for this character arc to make sense, it is crucial for her to learn that more orcs on the tip of her blade isn't the way for her to fight this battle. If it just ends with her leading the charge of the army, it'll feel like a waste. 2/5

It blows my mind that with all of Twitter's vocal efforts to reduce toxicity and friction, they do a terrible job publicizing the many features they've gradually introduced that let you do that. Turning off RTs. Untagging yourself from a thread. Muting threads. Force unfollowing. Seriously, there should be a big ass menu titled "ways to make your Twitter experience safer/more pleasant" that includes literally all of this stuff. Such basic shit.
