Just Published: My new research on #terrorist #recidivism, published by @CTCWP, based on a review of literature and analysis of unique dataset of 557 terrorist convicts in Belgium, since 1990 (THREAD) 👇
ctc.usma.edu/overblown-expl… This research was triggered by long held assumption that terrorists are likely to reoffend upon release, which seemed confirmed by recent attacks in London by released terrorist offenders (Usman Khan and Sudesh Amman) /1

Tomorrow, I'll publish a piece on terrorist #recidivism in CTC Sentinel @CTCWP. What is terrorist recidivism? How to 'measure' it? How likely are terrorists to reoffend?...
Until then, I wanted to highlight some of the work already published on this (Thread) The first person to trigger my curiosity on this topic was the brilliant @AndrewPSilke, notably during one of his presentations. I had also read this article with Tinka Veldhuis in @Perspectives_T, a must-read terrorismanalysts.com/pt/index.php/p…

Where should we prosecute #foreignfighters? Some countries, like #Belgium, propose to have them prosecuted locally, or by an "international tribunal". This may not be the best option. Here is why. THREAD (based on an article I wrote in French, link below) 1)Foreign fighters have indeed committed crimes in the region, and could legitimately be prosecuted locally.HOWEVER, that applies only for Iraq (and crimes committed in Iraq). Many fighters are currently detained in #Syria. Not clear whether there is evidence against them in Iraq
