The defence team have “stressed that Şule Çet was not a virgin and that she drank alcohol,” and claimed that a “woman's agreement to drink alcohol with a man in a secluded place counted as sexual consent.” #suleicinadalet #Turkey

Two men have been charged with raping and killing Şule Çet, a university student, whose body “was found to have fallen from an office on the 20th storey of a skyscraper in #Ankara in the early hours of May 24, 2018.” #suleicinadalet #Turkey

Initial police reports said Çet had committed suicide. But an autopsy as well as a separate report from Çet’s family’s legal team showed evidence of rape.The trial began on Wednesday “many Turks...see Çet’s death as a symptom and symbol of the violence faced by women in #Turkey.”

“At one point, the presiding judge asked Çet’s flatmate if she had brought her boyfriend home with her.”
So not only have defence team claimed “a woman's agreement to drink alcohol with a man in a secluded place counted as sexual consent” but the judge is contributing to misogyny
