This week on #BIWisdom I’m excited to discuss #skills for #data and #Analytics.

…and I started my #BIWisdom time with #BusinessIntelligence with eLearning and Education (thank you to all those who educated me in SQL, Analytical Engines, HCI, and far, far more)

It turns out, attracting and *retaining* access to skilled resources is a primary concern for most organizations, especially with #data and #Analytics #skills. We should expect this to remain a #BIWisdom issue for some time.
There are many pressures on *reliable* access to top #data and #analytics talent: the @BLS_gov data shows average job/role tenure keeps getting shorter. #BIWisdom (see also the @OECD data)
The breadth and depth of attractive skills keeps growing too, as our wonderful #data and #analytics market is innovating delightfully fast #BIWisdom
So, do you have the skills you want/need? Can you attract the right talent easily? What about retaining reliable access to good people? What kinds of programmatic approaches might work to help these issues? #BIWisdom
Indeed, is your organization even paying the right attention to Talent? Too often shiny tech is acquired without the skills to make the most of it, and yet the #services to make the software sing cost more than the software itself! #BIWisdom
Thankfully, there are ways of augmenting the skills your org has: superb Services companies are ready to help, and their work is typically of very high quality - it is their reason to exist... #BIWisdom

I wonder if great retention is also a great way to attract new talent: like Word-of-Mouth #Marketing ("this is a great place to work") #BIWisdom
The HR Experts (such as @SHRM_Research ) publish best practices, but in our specific market the recommendations can be more concrete examples. Challenging and rewarding work can be specified - for some it will be learning #DataScience. #BIWisdom
A topical new skill is always highly valued. But I once heard (at a conference breakfast) from a "Fortune 50" CDO that attrition among their data scientists was >50%. #BIWisdom
...another breakfast wit (not me) asked if they could have predicted it - was frowned upon :)
I want to revisit the #retention topic for #BIWisdom: people love making a difference: if your org does not yet have a #Data4Good initiative - start one!
Also, social in-person training and collaborative work are more rewarding than toiling alone (usually) - teams matter, so make them, nurture them. #BIWisdom
