Top secret map President Roosevelt used to track the invasion of Normandy in June, 1944. #DDay75
'More than a year in the planning, D-Day was originally set to start on 5 June, judged to be the most likely date to combine calm seas, a full moon and low water at first light. However, storms meant it was delayed by 24 hours to 6 June.' bbc.com/news/world-485…
'Shortly after midnight, three US and British airborne divisions, more than 23,000 men, took off to secure the flanks of the beaches. Myriad naval vessels and landing craft gathered at a location in the Channel dubbed "Piccadilly Circus".
From 06:30, the first five assault divisions were delivered to their beaches under cover of a naval bombardment.
Throughout the day troops landed on the beaches. By midnight, the Allies had secured their beachheads and pushed further inland from Gold, Juno, Sword and Utah.

The pilot was Soviet celebrity Valery Chkalov, the most famous of “Stalin’s Falcons”. Chkalov was a son of a Volga boatman and a daring pilot.
The aircraft, ANT-25 was designed by the genius Andrei Nikolayevich Tupolev. Revolutionary design, included the fuel tanks in the wings for the first time. The proportion of wings to the fuselage resembled a glider, allowing the plane to fly huge distances without refuelling.

During the recent visit to the U.K., the Queen gave President Trump the special edition of Winston Churchill’s memoirs “The Second World War”. The secret that Churchill was forced to keep by intelligence authorities is that throughout the War he had access to ULTRA.
ULTRA intelligence was obtained by the British codebreakers during WWII. By cracking ENIGMA codes, they received access to high-level German communications.
Churchill became PM on 10 May 1940. 12 days later, codebreakers at Bletchley Park, England, broke the Enigma key used by the German Air Force. This was the first major success for British intelligence in #WWII.

In July 1929, a newly minted Soviet Intelligence officer codename JOE spent twelve days on the Trans-Siberian Railway travelling in the luxurious but dangerous international first-class compartment. The route was notorious for the presence of foreign counter-intelligence officers
posing as passengers, looking out for Russian agents on their way to China. In order to maintain their cover story, Soviet agents were told never to speak Russian in conversation with their fellow passengers from the moment they boarded the train and even if possible while asleep
JOE had another important task on the journey to remember a cipher of thirty-two random numbers, each corresponding to a letter of the Russian alphabet. For security reasons, the cipher could never be written down.

Tonight I’m at @RUSI_org attending Reflections on #DDay The Battle for Normandy. I’ll try and LT as much as I can!
First up Sir Antony Beevor. Setting the scene. First major strategic factor was failure of Hitler to destroy the Red Army in 1941 and declaration of war on the US. Story of 1942 is overstretch of Germany and Japan.
The cross channel operation owed much to the Eastern front - opening of a second front to relieve pressure on Red Army. But in mid period of the war there were no troops available in the UK to conduct an invasion.

I’m starting a thread to document things I find in the FISA warrants that were just released. These will be in the form of observations I make as I work my way through it. First of all, the 412 pages includes all four warrants and the associated documentation.
Secondly, the first thing that stands out to me is that the FBI perjured themselves in the application for the warrant. Why do I say this? Because it includes this.
