What if you’re losing the debate because you’re in the wrong.
American Christianity’s moral authority really got a “black eye” when we chose to become the enthusiastic energizing loyally sustaining force behind an authoritarian white supremacist political movement, just my humble opinion.
Is it?

I get the impulse, but I think our desire to self-exculpate by making these distinctions is part of the problem, tbh.
We’re talking about a hugely influential and powerful part of mainstream Christianity. We should face it square and confess it for what it is, without first insisting on boundaries that establish our own innocence.
Christians don’t make these separating distinctions when expressing our (justifiable) pride in our religion’s involvement in abolition or civil rights, I notice, even though those movements were on the marginalized fringes of the church.
I don’t see why, then, we modern Christians feel we can make such separating distinctions between ourselves and the mainstream church’s role as the energizing force behind a white supremacist political party.

If we want to fight it, we need to confess it.
