This shows that, regardless of what people say, it wasn't until October, 2018 that we saw the "surge" along the border. In Trump's first year(Feb 2017-Feb 2018) we saw a massive decrease in crossings. From Mar 2018- Sept 2018 we saw the numbers normalize.

This return to the mean during the spring and summer of 2018 was due to a number factors. The booming economy and Dems action to get the zero tolerance policy at the border changed with their "kids in cages" bullcrap being the two biggest. But equally important to understand is

...to acknowledge there was a crisis or provide additional funding/personal. Instead, the Dems not only sat on their hands and did nothing to help but they also cheered the illegals in their invasion of this country.

Trump not one to quit or give up turned to other options. Mexican tariffs being the major one. Within days Mexico caved and promised to control the flow better. From reports it appears that there has been a decrease in illegals since the agreement.

Because of this agreement, Trump defeated the Dems strategy. He then went on the offensive with a mass deportation threat, forcing the Dems to cave on the funding. Now Trump has Mexico helping & the funds needed to clean up the mess that the left created.

I would imagine the numbers will fall at the border massively in the coming months and stay low at least until the election. Let's recap then:
1.Trump won election
2. Illegal immigration dropped bigly
3. Left countered. Started/reopened pipeline for human trafficking...

...while attacking and removing Trump policies like zero tolerance.
4. Trump countered with military
5. Dems won house but not Senate in midterms, continued their attacks/pipeline
6. Trump countered with gov shutdown
7. Dems reinforced their offensive with more illegals

8. Trump countered with Emergency declaration and request for funds.
9. Dems refused aid and increased illegals.
10. Trump launched a counter offensive with his Battle of Inchon (Mexico tariffs) causing a decisive defeat for Dems and strategic reversal.

11. Dems try rearguard action with "kids in cages" narrative.
12. Trump calls for a mass deportation campaign to mop up resistance.
13. Dems go into full retreat and cave on funding bill.
14. The war goes on......

Call it a political battle, call it a chess match, call it what you will; it's important to understand that there are at least two sides fighting it out. As with any competition, each side will score or have their chance to score. Trump is not working in a vacuum. He is doing
