Millions of white Americans w/o a racist bone in their bodies, when confronted in 2020 with the choice between voting for a white nationalist or raising marginal tax rates on super-rich people they don't even know or like (i.e., "socialism"), will chose white nationalism.
This is the bet that the GOP is making here. Sadly, it's probably a good one.
