Today marks the anniversary of #10YearsRojava. Ten years of hard-fought achievements; ten years of setbacks, too. On this occasion, RIC is releasing 2 long-form articles. The first, appearing today, recalls the history of the revolution.
Ten years ago, the people of Kobane took to the streets demanding autonomy, thus sparking a revolution. Our first piece seeks to trace the developments between the early uprising in Kobane & today's AANES system.

How did it come to be? How did it develop?
A lot has changed even since RIC released its 'Beyond the Frontlines' report detailing NES' political structures in 2019. The current piece will update the form & the functions of the communes, councils, women's houses, and more.

I've also written a thread today about separatism and why we don't want to do it:
First, the name of the non-state entity is the Autonomous Administration of North & East Syria (AANES). Rojava is the area of historic Kurdish settlement. Its borders are disputed, but are inside the claimed territory of the Autonomous Administration.
