Quelques minutes auparavant, le Boeing 767 du vol AA11 a percuté la tour nord du World Trade Center. Tuant sur le coup les 92 personnes à bord et plusieurs dizaines d'employés du courtier en assurances Marsh and McLennan qui travaillaient entre les 93e et 99e étages.
