NEW: @Dave_Eby will shuffle cabinet and swear in a new group of ministers Dec. 7.
News comes as Eby announces the Nov. 18 swearing for himself will occur at the Musqueam Community Centre in Vancouver, after Victoria's Gov House had a scheduling conflict with a gala fundraiser.
@Dave_Eby Let the cabinet speculation begin!
@Dave_Eby The Eby swearing-in in Vancouver also signals a return of BCgov's power centre to Vancouver, where Eby lives and away from Victoria-area of John Horgan.
Expect much of gov business to be done out of Vancouver going forward.

The IPCC is crystal clear:

We must end #fossilfuel development and rapidly scale up the low carbon economy. The world’s best scientists have the ‘tools and the know-how’ to safeguard our future. The factor we are missing is political will. 1/ #bcpoli

Last week in the #BCLeg the @bcndp & @bcliberals MLAs debated a motion on the #LNG industry.

It was a shameful competition as they tried to out-spin one another in their support for fossil fuel subsidies. 2/ #bcpoli #ClimateCrisis
Under the @bcndp BC’s #oilandgas subsidies have gone up year over year.

BC deserves a gov't that recognizes the reality of the #ClimateEmergency. To build a sustainable, resilient economy we must stop subsidizing the industries that work against it. 3/ #bcpoli #ClimateCrisis

Outgoing Speaker Darryl Plecas has produced a “Speaker’s Forum” report w/ recommendations for the #bcleg. It contains… many reforms that target the media, which, I should point out, the Speaker has no authority over. But.
I will summarize them in this thread.
"Encourage the Legislative Press Gallery and other media to present news to the public more like an accessible briefing note on relevance and less like a story about villains and heroes.”
"Have an independent body provide an annual report card of the media’s coverage of the Legislative Assembly."

🚨B.C. Premier @JJHorgan says impact of social distancing on the economy, fate of school schedules and working with other governments are major challenges. Says K-12 is suspended for now. #bcpoli #coronavirus
@JJHorgan says "This is the time when all of us need to come together" and says co-operation between NDP, BC Liberals and Greens. Will #BCLeg return March 23? He says full legislature not needed, could have quorum of MLAs. (87 MLAs is over the temporary 50-person limit). #bcpoli
🚨Amid suspension of K-12 learning, B.C. Education Minister @Rob_Fleming says every student will receive a final mark. Graduation assessments will be postponed, but every student eligible to graduate will do so. #bcpoli #bced #coronavirus

Warning - long twitter rant inspired by @Wilkinson4BC’s request that we not become “bogged down in political posturing” in regards to #PlecasReport and in response to the #bothsidesism running rampant throughout #bcpoli. 1/
There are, to me, two distinct streams to the #PlecasReport story. Which are, of course, related. #bcpoli 2/
First is about the excess & extravagant spending. I don’t doubt some of this may go back decades, through past govts & there are likely MLAs from various parties who could be implicated, just as likely MLAs from various parties who did not engage in this behaviour. #bcpoli 3/

When I arrived at #bcleg 10 years ago, I clashed w/ MacMinn.
Asked him for basic $ details about MLA spending. Told no. Asked him for travel expenses. Told no. Asked to see #bcleg budget. Told no. There WERE no financial books.
So I doubt this is his accurate travel costs.
I remember one year he was asked politely to curtail legislature spending. He was so upset he turned around and in step 1 fired the parliamentary player students who dress up annually as the Queen, Sir James Douglas, etc.
MLAs backed off after that poison pill.
Anyone who thinks MacMinn was some sort of guardian of the public $ is either ill-informed or nuts. When he retired, he demanded continued pay as an emeritus clerk consultant. Turned into a scandal. Was forced to promise to donate his salary to #bcleg upon his death. Still alive.
