A very good young goalkeeper who I think needs to play in a system that suits him, and I think what Evatt demands of his goalkeeper would bring the best out of Savin. Image

Now released by #MUFC and looking to shine elsewhere it’s another player I believe fits Evatts system well, he is comfortable on the ball and can also carry out of defence Image

Salford City’s 2020/21 financial results covered a season that the club described as “unique” with the COVID pandemic leading to “extreme challenges”. Nevertheless, The Ammies’ 8th place in League Two was the best finish in their history #WeAreSalford
Salford City have been high-profile ever since the club was bought in 2014 by five of the #MUFC Class of ’92, namely Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes. Singapore businessman (and Valencia owner) Peter Lim purchased a 50% stake in September 2014.
When they acquired Salford, the club was playing in the 8th tier of English football (the Northern Premier League Division One North), but they have secured four promotions since then, reaching the Football League for the first time in 2019.

As it is the 10th anniversary of that day at Stoke, I thought I would share what happened to me that day.
I couldn’t get a #BWFC ticket for the game but decided to go down there anyway and see if I could get hold of one around The Britannia. Continued below...
No luck, I went back to my car and listened to the 1st half on the radio. I could see the ground and hear the crowd and thought just before half time I would take my chances and try to sneak in. Checking a few doors, turnstiles, no luck..
I was around the green dot and spotted some Stoke fans outside having a smoke, it appeared they intentionally allowed this to prevent people smoking on the concourse. I knew this was my chance so I headed out of sight to yellow dot Masterplan.

After I put together a thread looking at the financial trends in the Premier League over the last 10 years from 2011 to 2020, a few people asked me if I could do the same for the EFL Championship. So here are the finances for England’s second tier over the last decade.
This analysis comes with caveats, as not all Championship clubs published accounts in the last decade, e.g. Derby County in 2019 and 2020. Also no accounts for clubs in administration, e.g. Portsmouth (2011 & 2012), Bolton Wanderers (2018 & 2019) and Wigan Athletic (2020).
Nevertheless, the themes and trends can still be highlighted, including the impact of COVID in the last three months of 2020. We will also feature some comparisons with the Premier League to illustrate the immense differences between England’s top two divisions.

1/ OPEN LETTER TO @SkySports

amazing how suddenly you care about "fans" with your incredible focus on #MUFC protests against the Glazers

where were you when #LUFC was being destroyed by Ken Bates & their fans protested? where were you when #BuryAFC was battling to survive?
2/ when #BWFC went to the brink, @SkySports most certainly didn't do anything to push their fans' agenda, yet here you are pushing Man U fans' agenda

your hypocrisy is nauseating, considering how you created this bloated, average @premierleague that wallows in obscene money
3/ @SkySports doesn't care about fans, your ridiculous influence on match scheduling & your inconsiderate changing of kick off times proves this

now that your greed-fuelled product is under threat, you suddenly hop into the fans' camp to try & protect your own interests

Back in early September, I put out a team-by-team prediction for L2 thanks to @WeLoveBettingUK.

Roughly 17/18 games into the season, let’s see how good, and bad, my predictions are doing 😬

I’ll go from bottom to top of the actual table.
#EFL @d3d4football
24: Southend United (Predicted 24th)
#Blues have had it very tough so far. An embargo limited who could come in as they took 2 points from 11 games.

Recent form though is strong, and it’s taken them from well adrift to 1 point from safety. Not writing them off anymore...
#EFL
23: Stevenage (Predicted 21st)
I don’t think I’m too far off here. 21st is just 1 point away at the minute.

Have much more faith in this #StevenageFC team than I ever did last year and whilst they lack experience up front, defensively they’ve improved significantly overall.

Starting on July 28 on @TheAthleticUK @TheAthletic, it's ... The Premier League 60, counting down the greatest players of the Premier League era.
The project is explained here, along with a few disclaimers before we start ... theathletic.com/1938977/
@TheAthleticUK @TheAthletic We start with @GeorgeCaulkin on Les Ferdinand theathletic.com/1947390/2020/0…
"Ferdinand had everything you'd want in a centre-forward. But what set him apart was the hang time, the way he took to the air and then stayed up there, as if the world had stopped turning, just for him" #PL60
@TheAthleticUK @TheAthletic Next, it’s @Zonal_Marking on Jamie Carragher theathletic.com/1949368/2020/0…
“He was unfortunate to be around at a time when English football was blessed with top-class centre-backs. Yet even then, there were periods when Carragher evidently played better than his rivals” #PL60 @Carra23

Not much for Bolton fans to smile about over last 2 yrs, never mind last 2 weeks, but hope they & others will enjoy @ivan_campo @kevin_davies Mike Whitlow, Sam Allardyce & even Mário Jardel reminiscing about happier times theathletic.com/1687783/2020/0… #BWFC With @jacklang @AdamCrafton_
“I’ll never forget the one he flicked over Ray Parlour’s head in the corner. It wasn’t just a flash trick. It was a trick to get him past a player. With @IAmOkocha there was breathtaking flair, but it came with accountability” #BWFC

Aston Villa’s 2018/19 financial results covered a season when they finished 5th in the Championship, but were promoted to the Premier League after beating Derby County in the play-off final under manager Dean Smith, who replaced Steve Bruce in October. Some thoughts follow #AVFC
In July 2018 NSWE SCS, owned by billionaire businessmen Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, bought a controlling stake from Dr. Tony Xia after #AVFC “experienced significant liquidity problems”, including a missed tax payment to HMRC. Xia’s minority share bought out in August 2019.
#AVFC loss widened by £33m from £36m to £69m, as revenue dropped £14m (21%) to £54m and profit on player sales fell £5m from £16m to £11m. Operating expenses increased by £15m, while £46m promotion payments were offset by stadium sale £36m and HS2 land compensation £14m.

I recently wrote about the importance of the cash flow statement in assessing the financial performance of a football club, focusing on the Premier League. Since then I have had a few requests to do the same for the Championship, so let’s take a look in the following thread.
A club’s profit and loss account is easy to understand, i.e. basically revenue less expenses (mainly player wages), but this is a notional profit based on the accountants’ accruals concept, which can be very different from actual cash movements.
This is important, as the main reason that football clubs fail is cash flow problems. It does not matter how large your revenue is (or your profits are), if you do not have the cash to pay your players, suppliers or indeed the taxman, then you will find yourself in trouble.

A dull little thread, to show the hierarchy of Companies making up Anderson's failed #BWFC Group.

@BWFCFans are probably familiar with it & many will be #Burnden Shareholders.

At the top sits :
1. Inner Circle Investments
which owns 94.5% of:
2. Burnden Leisure
Minority Shareholders are owed a Fiduciary Duty.
That Duty is a legal obligation on the Co. & its Dirs.

Sufficient % exists to Call a GM for Burnden Leisure Ltd
That Right's threshold for exercise is 5%

But obvious practical problems, herding 6,267 cats

legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/46/…
Ken Anderson owns 100% of Inner Circle.

Both its 2 Issued Shares are in hock to Moonshift Investments, controlled by the Trustees of the Estate of Eddie Davies (so Probate &c. is likely also a factor)

The shares secure a £5m Davies-Anderson loan given before the former's death
